Yep stick it up them Bill.
Trouble is by the end of the stubby I'm getting used to the new taste. It's sour rather than bitter.

i think you blokes overthink stuff to much, i've done many many many engine gearbox swaps god knows how many diff swaps changed the rear ride heights more times than most have had hot dinners never once have i measured pinion angles, we've always done our own tailshaft shortening i drive hard and fast with lots of highway driving at or above the speed limit and never had driveline vibration issues

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I agree…… tail shaft shortening isn’t hard I have done it before even without having it balanced and no problems. Pinion angles I never worry about, if it is too far it just makes a funny noise ……. And that was on an airbagged car that touches the ground. So it has to be a fair way out to make any huge difference.Mick wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:06 pm i think you blokes overthink stuff to much, i've done many many many engine gearbox swaps god knows how many diff swaps changed the rear ride heights more times than most have had hot dinners never once have i measured pinion angles, we've always done our own tailshaft shortening i drive hard and fast with lots of highway driving at or above the speed limit and never had driveline vibration issues
[*]2 year project currently making its 3rd term
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
I have done plenty as well Mick and like you have not had an issue until I lifted a Nissan patrol just 50mm.Mick wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 9:06 pm i think you blokes overthink stuff to much, i've done many many many engine gearbox swaps god knows how many diff swaps changed the rear ride heights more times than most have had hot dinners never once have i measured pinion angles, we've always done our own tailshaft shortening i drive hard and fast with lots of highway driving at or above the speed limit and never had driveline vibration issues
The vibration was not so much violent but just a steady drone that eventually drove me nuts ! The steering started to wobble at 80kms an hour so I had to use offset bushes to get my caster back to stop the wobble. I then had to use adjustable upper trailing arms in the rear to stop the whap whap sound that started around 100kms per hour, not a problem around town but on the freeway that was another story.
Its like all things if your brain focuses on any issue it tends to exasperate it.
My EK now has slightly different angle between the diff and gearbox and because i have not driven it yet i don't know if it will be an issue, it is in the back of my mind although !

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
My '46 Chev had a horrible vibration right on 60-65 MPH , measured my pinion angles and it was out by 6 dgrees , bought some shims, welded them to the spring saddles on the diff and fixed.
Currently getting a new diff made 1" narrower and will make sure its all good when it goes in - considering modifying it to a 2 piece tailshaft out of a Commode seeing as its a Crewman diff and a 4L65E thats going in .....

Suggest the mods move the last few posts to the vibration thread for ease of future reference, but whatever……
