Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Harv thanks. I know exactly where you're coming from. It looks easy but it isn't. Bit annoyed the replacement hoses I got the grooves for the spring clips are wider than original, making the clips loose. I will have to shim them.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
how loose? sometimes the spring clips flatten out and you have to 'unflatten' themErrol62 wrote: Sat May 01, 2021 7:32 pm Harv thanks. I know exactly where you're coming from. Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
The groove is visibly larger and clips were tight on the HR hoses I replaced Patrick. I think also the hexagonal faces on the hoses are metric. Tube nuts I got are imperial, but I think bleed screws are 10mm.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
annoying when you get odd sizes...could always get some cutlery from the kitchen draw and use it between the spanner and the hex

Did I ever say how much I hate bleeding brakes. Chasing bubbles around the car twice and no pedal at all. Rafferty has taken over wife Elle’s role on the pedal. First pump the contents of the clutch slave dumped on the shed floor. Wrong pedal raff, quietly fuming. Lazy me left it hanging when I took the motor out.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
oh well ... it cleared out the hoses ... I use a 'one-man' brake bleeder (one way valve) and start at the wheel 'furtherest' from the master cylinder

Yes been thinking about getting something similar. Yes I follow same method but always think it seems counter intuitive.
I needed a diversion so put 8" Cheviots on. These track at 1390mm which is 6mm over stock. 235/60/14 tyres same as the 7" steelys but fhs sterlys are under track. I can possibly get these brought in a tad and fit 225/60/14. Will be legal track, not rub and look horn with rocket red drums.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Yep.
Thanks to a combination of Patrick's suggestion of the one man bleeder, Rafferty's help, and stubborn perserverence, brakes are bled to reasonable satisfaction and car is back on the ground rolling.
Engine due later in the week, so timely. Standard size 186 Hastings pistons going in. Just got to throw it all together, bung on trans and stick it in. Exhaust will need work to clear the sway bar mount. Hopefully that's the worst of it, but I doubt it. How long have I got? I think Regency Park inspection will have to be after a shakedown cruise to Toowoomba and home via Maroochidore and central NSW.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Noticed one of the front hub wheel studs is loose, rocking back and forward slightly. I replaced these when I fitted new rotors to the sedan back in ‘93. Thinking to put couple small tacks with the mig. I will see if any others are loose. If so may have to source some over size studs, unless I could shrink the holes on the anvil maybe.
Cleaned up head bolts, pushrods and sundry engine fasteners. The pushrods from the old 186 are pretty gummed up. Two sets I have have ball ends while the third are tubular ends. They’re all the same length at least. Some of the head bolts have slightly longer threads, which I am avoiding.
My compressor is out of action and I need to get it working, or I’ll have to paint the engine with a brush.
Got a new crankshaft timing gear on order $37. Hope I will be assembling engine this weekend.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Clay,
I don't like the idea of welding stud to hub.
There's Tool No. 3A-Whatever: Stud Peening Drift, which looks like a heavy-duty wad punch. Wad punch. There's an idea. Otherwise I was going to suggest grinding a centre-punch into a D-section, and peening the knurled shoulder of the wheel stud.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
More just adding tiny amount of weld to hub Rob but yeah thanks.
