Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Off to CBC bearings for a selector shaft seal. That should take care of all but very slight drop from the clutch slave and the usual red motor leaks. Refurbishing engine is not far away as oil consumption is excessive to the point of making oil changes superfluous.
Been using up paint I got to repair my new surfboard.

Looks go fast paint to me !!!
The seals in rubber should do the trick then just the motor rebuild !!!
At least your driving it and having fun.

Yes! Great colour for rebuilt engine. It is a very good contrast to the Wedgwood blue.

These springs better be set right. 600ml of epotec 408 4:1+20%. 35C in the shade, but of course I paintedthem in full sun. Humidity 26 pussent. Left over paraglaze jet black urethane to finish.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Trimmer recommended 3M vinyl dye but pretty sure they make duplicolour. Rather bright.

Re-torqued diff flange, unis, steering, front upper outer pivots and door hinges. Adjusted steering lash up so it is firm on lock but not heavy. Replaced rear engine mounts.Driver side one was broken.
Went for a blat. Clutch judder eliminated and a noticeable improvement to handling at 100kmh.
Next job is to get the rear suspension sorted.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
All Makes Historic Car Club scrutineer Laurie Wickes came for a visit Saturday morning and signed off on club rego.
Laurie has been around the odd early holden going back to his long distant youth and instantly diagnosed a badly leaking tappet cover gasket as the main source of the engine oil leaks.
Dug out some of the gumtree parts I've been hoarding for just such a need. Engine will make it over east i hope. Oil consumption is not too bad unless pushed. Never gets in the least hot. Really need to attend to the rear shackle bushes before much more driving. Gave the tappets a tweak up.

Clay,
If you want to punch the kms then do the timing gear as well, you probably already know but old fibre ones will let go.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Too true Greg. Not a job for the side of the road.
Fancy rocker cover in place, waiting for longer hold down bolts. I gasket gooed the cork gasket to the alloy face. Fingers crossed for a good seal.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Fair bit of detritus under that cover Clay - would be worth giving it a flush with Kero before putting cover back on or might get some unwanted wear?
Interesting the rockers were pressed steel even in FB - did they change at EK?

Its a 179 head rob, 1964 edition id say, but the pressed rockers went another 20 years or so. Gave it a cursory degrease before the photo but I didn't bother getting the toothbrush out.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Put the car on historic rego today. Now she expires on Australia Day.
Got to love Konnect Fastners. 33c stainless 1/4" UNC Allen head 3/4" long bolts, 8 of. 5c zinc washers, 8 of. Hopefully no more leak.
Had to make up fancy stainless wiring hangers from old hose clamp.
Itching to chuck a WW Stromberg on now but no, must concentrate on rear springs. I'm not really looking forward to having her off the road for any length of time. Want to fit sway bar at the same time so welding mounts to body and diff housing for a tidy appearance as well as extra strength.
