Thanks HarvHarv wrote: Tue Jan 19, 2021 3:07 pm A word of caution on those rubber blanking plugs. I fitted some to the FB, and all looked good. At some stage though they caught on the adjuster cap, and canted it. The cap canted the shoe, and all hell broke loose. Squealing, and worn lining. I had a good discussion with Burt Bros about it, and they reckon the aftermarket plugs are deeper than the originals. I can't be sure - I've never seen an original. Worth a good check though once they are in.

here's how the plugs look with the drum off
the backing is 5mm so I halved it

That's the way paddy. Originally they would've been metal clips which are no doubt shallower. I've got the clips on my front brakes. Nothing on rears but I will have to get on to that.

Good Solution and thanks for the heads up Harv - better to fix before it's F...d.

Re: Gimme 5 years
passenger side front brake shoes are near new (although the trailing shoe lining is debonding)
driver's side nothing
I'll get the originals re-lined; but, I've got these ready to go in anyway

Re: Gimme 5 years
Cool - mine were new cylinders when I bought it 4 years ago and within that 4 years were so corroded they needed sleeving - the response from the sleeved cylinders is heaps better than non-sleeved also - much better fit tolerances

Re: Gimme 5 years
the heat and then the rain has kept me away from the EK for a bit ... today I thought I'd start it up and have a bit more of a listen.
I noticed a flat spot if I blip the accelerator so had a bit of a look ... the accelerator pump was just dribbling instead of squirting. I took the top off the carby and could see a water bubble in the rectangular hole above where petrol is supposed to squirt out. I tried different ways to blow, suck and pump it through but in the end poured some metho in to get rid of it
hopefully it's just a one off - I thought I better check if I got some in the tank so I made up a remote starter and pumped some petrol into a jar - all good.
also decided to put a fuel filter in
considering I'd been squirting carby cleaner in and using metho, I decided to go back to a leather plunger seal - I had a good one in a spare carby...though I assume they make the new ones out of something durable anyway
I don't have tool 6A20 but I do have poly pipe

Good ol single strommie. Hopefully that’s sorted. Don’t be surprised if flat spot persists until she warms up nicely.

The weather is a bit better today so I made a start on the front end
got out the book - it said to get a feeler gauge and measure this gap - max 4 thou
only 76 thou over
I've got these to go in

Re: Gimme 5 years
Hi Patrick, I tried those Rares reco units too and found that the inner and outer wheel bearing mounts had been machined too much by Rares and the bearings were not a snug fit. There's ways around it, but in my case I decided to put kits through my old ones instead. If you go down that track, reamer is here if you want to borrow it. Brett

The king pin retaining cotter pin is missing on all three (yours with the excess clearance, and the two reconditioned ones).
