Re: FB Standard Wagon
Finally some rust in the rear beaver so now I believe it is an FB. 585 9895 is honey beige dulon acrylic, same as my panel van and was the old Electricity Trust of SA fleet colour. That doesn’t me@n it was an ETSA car of course, but my van had the fleet numbers painted in yellow inside the hub caps. You said it came from western qld but is an Adelaide body by the number. What about subframe number? I’m beginning to wonder if all wagon bodies were made in Adelaide Woodville as were the vans, due to the size of the press required to form the roof panel.
Normal sedan and wagon seat would be trimmed in vinyl at the back with ashtray. Van has plywood back. Ute has no back and a sort of cape that sits on the parcel tray under the rear window.

Drew,
Standards is good. Standard station wagons are even better.
I'll echo Clay's comments about rust: it took a lot of looking, but you finally found some.
Everybody has their opinion on paint, but I'm with you on this one: don't repaint it. Knock the dents out. Fix the rust that needs to be fixed. Leave it at that.
And it's good that you have an original radiator core. They last forever. So find an old-school radiator shop who is prepared to take the tanks off and clean the tubes out.
I'll be watching this rebuild thread with no small interest . . .
Rob

Pretty common this as the original ones are mild steel and tend to rust. If you wanted to be authentic you can paint them. That is if you do paint. On my sedan the paint came off after a while due to a bodgy windscreen install organised by a”mate”.
Better start hunting for a tailgate badge. Pity about that.

Interesting obervation there Errol about the stainless windscreen trim, I didn’t realise the STD were colour coded.
I’ll probably just keep the stainless considering that I have them.
Yes finding a tailgate badge may be a challenge but I’ll keep my eyes open for one.

The seller is aptly named .........
I concur with Rob, that car needs to be preserved, not restored.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Snorkeling at Ningaloo was just tops mate, and I’m heading up to Broome in my next RnR.
Will be down in Perth for a couple of weeks on August 6th though, would definitely like to catch up if possible and talk cars.
Definitely looking at ‘Preserving’ the old girl.

Snoozers losers Mick!
Yeah I seen it for sale and I thought it would have been snapped up, when I seen it was still available I had a good chat with the young bloke and worked out a deal with him.
Same old story, lots of people messaging but I was the first to pick up the phone and talk to him.
Managed to secure the bus the old fashioned way, through a good conversation.

Re: FB Standard Wagon
Seems a mix of CLR with water at a ratio of 1:4 does a good job a cleaning up for the patina finish...
Has anyone been successful with holding a nice patina on their vehicles?
