Gday I’m Drew and thanks for having me in your forum.
Amongst this crazy time of the Covid I have managed to pick up a vehicle that I am happy to spend the next few years working on, she ticks all the boxes with being fairly complete, minimal rust and it’s a STD so it’s less work.
I’d like to somehow keep the original paint for the patina effect but I am unsure if it will realistically work considering it will need inspection for registration.
It has been parked under a house for the last 30 years out of the weather and was parked there by the original owner up in western QLD, so it a dry car which I am very happy about.

Sweet find Drew and welcome to the forum. Look forward to following progress and I am quite partial to the standards, having owned one for many years. A wagon at that which is not common. Tell us your plans.

Cheers Errol, I was just reading the thread on your bus, it has a good story behind it.
Plans at this point is to get it home and eyeball it!
Essentially it will be a period correct resto but I’d like to keep the patina.
Full underbody overhaul including rust, suspension and driveline for starters.
The rotisserie will get a work out in the next 12 months.
“Quite a story”, yes that is putting it politely. I originally intended to try and rejuvenate the original paint as is your plan, but too much body repair was needed on the external panels. Something to bear in mind.

Yes I have a feeling I will be up for a full paint and panel job aswell but I’m hoping not!
She is pretty rough on the out side though from what I can see so far.

Thanks Stephan for the warm welcome and yes I will be keeping an eye out for the SA events, even before the old girl is in the road I think.
I’m definitely in the right place to pick up a few tips to get the resto right.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
Foundation member #61 of FB/EK Holden club of W.A.
I would say the front screen has been out at some stage as the mouldings have been replaced with stainless ones from a Special. Pretty common this as the original ones are mild steel and tend to rust. If you wanted to be authentic you can paint them. That is if you do paint. On my sedan the paint came off after a while due to a bodgy windscreen install organised by a”mate”.
Better start hunting for a tailgate badge. Pity about that.

look forward to seeing what you do with it - great experience to draw on from yhis group - they certainly help me enormously
On a lot of American car shows there is a big movement to keep the original paint, what they do is clean and use a scuffing pad, then clear it with a 2 pack low sheen system, Keeps the surface rust at bay. Obviously any rust holes would have to be repaired for registration.

Interesting obervation there Errol about the stainless windscreen trim, I didn’t realise the STD were colour coded.
I’ll probably just keep the stainless considering that I have them.
Yes finding a tailgate badge may be a challenge but I’ll keep my eyes open for one.
