Rare Spares front windscreen rubber - volunteer needed.
Rare Spares front windscreen rubber - volunteer needed.
The current Rare Spares FB/EK front windscreen rubber is pretty poor. It is too "long", and has a lot of slop when fitted to a windshield. Most people opt for the Better Auto rubber.
Rares has retooled the rubber, and received a second run of samples. They fit up pretty well to their test vehicle, though they would like some more opinions before releasing it. Dave is happy to send me a front windscreen rubber to trial, though I am a long way away from needing my next one.
Is anyone nearly ready to put the windscreen into their car, and would like to trial the new rubber? If so I will send it to you, gratis.
A word of warning though... windscreens are not easy to put in. If this is your first go at doing it yourself, please don't volunteer to trial the rubber. There is a fair chance you won't succeed, and I'd hate to blame the rubber if it is OK.
Cheers,
Harv

too long was 1 of the issues.
the other issue was the trim would not fit in due to profile.

Re: Rare Spares front windscreen rubber - volunteer needed.

How many 100s of $$$ has this 1 product cost FJWally?
Re: Rare Spares front windscreen rubber - volunteer needed.
It’s not trivial when you’re paying for it
Re: Rare Spares front windscreen rubber - volunteer needed.
Mine sits well on the screen, so happy about that. And I’m grateful that others found the stuff up at their own cost and shared their concern on this forum. Better auto rubber seem to have some good prices on various stuff, but Rare Spares have pioneered the industry and deserve consideration.

Thanks Greg. Shoot me an address via PM please and I'll get the rubber sent to you direct... saves it having to come via my place and back into the post again.

Gents, while we are on the rubber issue. What is the rubber quality like in the rare spares and better auto rubber kits like. I’ve used some aftermarket VW rubber before and it was terrible, perished and cracked after 12 months.
Re: Rare Spares front windscreen rubber - volunteer needed.
I've only got two Better rubbers - front windscreen rubbers in both my wagon and daughter's ute. They have only been in for a short while, and have not seen much bad weather (mostly under cover).
I've got quite a lot of Rares rubbers in both those two cars (full kit), and in my FB sedan (lots of odds and ends). The FB sedan has been on the road for nearly a decade, and see's hard daily driver use (exactly what it was made for). No issues with the rubbers perishing or shrinking.
Cheers,
Harv
