Front bumper irons

Post by rosco »

Hi folk,
Vicky has hit a brick wall and I can't help her.
Can anyone kindly tell me if the front bumper irons that hold the bumper to the sub-frame are different on an FB to that of an EK please.
She has two EK's... on one, the irons stick out way further than the other one... I'm guessing one set of them might be from an FB..
Other than that, I don't know..... unless ones from the rear have been fitted to the front at some time - I have absolutely no idea.. only messed around with mine - and they were/are original...

Hi Rosco,

Front bumper irons should be the same FB EK, the rear are a different shape where as the front are straight side on and the rear are cut with a curve to clear the rear beaver panel.
You would need to measure them to be sure.

Have a look at 59wagon’s EK sedan thread where he re-made a set of front bumper irons. They should have a couple of bends in them. If they have been straightened out this could affect length.

Thanks Clay - I'll let Vicky know....
I think mine have the bends... sort of "crush" protection... these will bend further where they are located - rather than damage the mount in the subframe... my thoughts..

Yep all true.

You wont get them on the car if they are straightened but they certainly will get shorter if they have been hit.

My guess one set is undamaged the other pushed in from an impact.

Great work, Clay - bend is at 150 - upright at 330..... excellent.
I'll let Vicky know - still sorting out her iPad thingy and has trouble typing on her tiny phone for the time being...

Thanks for your help, it is very much appreciated.

Thanks Greg.... makes sense - I couldn't see any cut-out for the beaver in either of Vicky's irons... so, they are both front ones.
Clay has sent a pic of the measurement where the bends are and the length of the irons... we'll get Vicky to check hers and go with the ones which are the correct length..

Thanks for you help, Greg... she is full on with this build.... but, for now - it's at the "stripping down" stage until she sorts out what she is going to keep and what she has to find....

I'm not sure if I answer here. The stone tray has either had some welding done but stone tray is not the right shape now when I look at my smashed one. Looking at buying a,stone tray from someone to replace this one now. Not worth fixing :frownn:

Thank you Greg, I'll check tomorrow with measuring them to be sure. But she has been hit and maybe welded too. Which is why she isn't lining up with the bars in this ek, cheers :smile11:

Ok - I took some pix tonight of one side of the bumper mount irons and marked some measurements where the bends are... few pix in this.

I'll post each pic up as a separate post.... I tried to do multiple posts the other day and they went up out of order.
This is the first pic - you can see the total length of the iron..

In this pic, I have marked out the measurement from the sub-frame end where the bends in my irons are...

This pic shows the plates which sandwich the iron.. I don't know if I have the hooked end of these the right way up... but it works..
