Managed to get some time to finish off the front chassis rails and repair the last bit of rust. All areas are sprayed with rust converter and then copper coat.
The front cross member was cut from a section of 100x50x3mm RHS. I kept the original top flange and then fitted and welded the new section in.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

The tidy work continues. That radiator support won’t rust out in a hurry.

Your too kind. I reckon it will see me out and be ready for a electric motor conversion for when my kids take ownership of the car.

Motor, box and front end is back in. Gained more clearance for the headers and made the radiator cross member so it is removable. It was welded in which caused issues with getting the motor out.ImageImageImage

That looks a lot more elegant than the "hole in the guard" fenderwell headers. Well done.

Great fab work Taz. Does the engineer have any issues/requirements when it comes to modifying the chassis like that?
Keep it up.

The section that is notched has been laminated etc. At this stage the engineer has said nothing about it as he has not seen it ImageImage But my 20 years experience as a boilermaker welder tells me that structurally there should be no issue. The remainder of the chassis from the section which has been notched has also been laminated with 3mm steel so once again I see no issue.
