MildFB, customised FB wagon
Re: MildFB, customised FB wagon
Yes. We cut the VIN off during the process. Made a nice plate with it and have riveted it to the chassis. It was all approved by the engineer.

Thanks, that's great. Was interested in the grille. Different.MildFB wrote:Hows that... photobucket.
I believe Trev's chopped FB wagon
has the battery located under the rear cargo area. Not too familiar with the wagon bodies (sadly) and was wondering how it would fit. Of course there are quite a few options with gel cells and smaller units these days. With all that weight up front rear mounted battery would be a handling benefit.

I have used a sedan tank so it's off to the drivers side and made a drop down box to house the battery and tools on the other side.Errol62 wrote:Thanks, that's great. Was interested in the grille. Different.MildFB wrote:Hows that... photobucket.

Clever. Think I recall you're using rear filler position?
Sorry about the hijack MildFB. Good thing about vans is there is plenty of room for ancillary gear under false floor between seat and axle.

Re: MildFB, customised FB wagon
hello FB EK ers.. we have been off the air for a number of months while we had to relocate. Nothing done other than the grey primer went decidedly rust coloured!! But we are starting to get back on track, gave it a dry rub back and hit it with a new round of etch primer. Incidentally half the car went bare metal and primed and other half rubbed back and paint over old paint. In my opinion, if you are doing this, best to avoid bare metal respray unless you can get it all done quickly up to top coat. Undercoat is too porous and thin to be any barrier for any length of time. Anyhow we hope to get the Satellite Yellow and white on this year..

We are back... we lost a lot of time re-locating. Find a house, build a shed, put power to it... you know the drill.
Anyhow, we are up to the painting stage, sitting here in hi-build. The final colour will be Satellite yellow and white.

Good to see you are still at it mate , what are you doing for side glass - it doesn't look like you have sunken them in like Ed did when he built Marks ???

Re: MildFB, customised FB wagon
G'day Blacky
yes the rear sides are going to get custom made, we are going to make a steel mould, so that the glass maker just needs to lay the new glass over it, and it will take the shape, it will just go straight in hopefully, just need to trim the rubbers.

Re: MildFB, customised FB wagon
PS the other custom windows are the rear tail gate and front doors (without 1/4 vent), all are just flat glass and should be easy. If you recall we have sunk the firewall so that we are using a standard front windscreen without modifications. Saving a lot of money just there.
If in doubt..chop it.
