Looking along William Street to Kings Cross
I have a picture book by Jeff Carter, the photographer who took the top picture, but he has dated it 1961, which is obviously incorrect given that there is an EJ Holden taxi in the foreground. Interesting that the EK taxi next to it has a Hydra-Matic badge on the boot. Automatic taxis would have been a rarity back then.
Looking at the two great old photos of William St I can understand why lanes are marked now !
Good to see it when it was the car sales centre of Sydney. The only brands now there are for the toffy end of town.
This is a great thread - love these old pics !!!
Graham, they would have been 8V71's. 6V71's were pretty rare in SAR's from what I've seen. The last listing on TNT/ANSETT trucks Shows the majority as being 8V92 engines but I doubt that this is correct for the year of the vehicles in the photo as 8V92's came out well after this.
The article that came with this pic states that they were 310hp engines fitted which would be correct for a 8V71N (non-turbo).
Bought at the market today, An FB with the owner's girlfriend. based on her hairstyle & fashion, I'd say its in the mid 70's
The owner valued his car as it's super clean with shiny tyres.
