Had been having trouble posting but thanks to gpi I can now bother you all again

So last weekend I finished my dash mod
Cut out the light switch area, tacked in the piece and modified the ignition position to take my headlight switch


Welded the piece in and the usual gring and prime

My subchassis comes back tomorrow with colour on it, the body comes off of the rotis so firewall gets colour this weekend.

Still have a couple of things to do and then the body gets turned into a roller so it can go for panel and paint

I like the smoothed dash. I wonder what that headlight switch would look like if you had it plastic-chromed... is the bezel removable from the switch?

Yes it is Harv I like the way you think.

I'll think about it later on at the moment I'm just trying to get it to paint as soon as I can then I can play with the little details.

Well my Ute came off the rotisserie yesterday first time in 3 years I think it is or maybe 4.
I was like an expectant father waiting for Keith to arrive yesterday morning with the subchassis but I'm absolutely rapped it looks great and the pearl in it really pops in the sunlight.
He prepared the firewall and is going to colour today.
I'll post some photos Monday when I'm in the office.
Really don't think that I'm going to make it for the nationals but going to give it a crack if I get the body back in time.

This has probably been asked before but can somebody tell me if anything goes between the subchassis and fire wall like KBS or mastic etc.
Also are are FC and FB EK bench seats basically the same I know the side plates were different FC plastic FB ek metal (the FB ek ones that I have are at least) I have a pretty good FC seat and a pretty bad FB ek one so wanted to maybe recover the earlier one.

I have played with both fc and ek seats. The main differences are cosmetic as I recall. I had an fc rear seat in my sedan which sat up above the parcel shelf in an arc, not that it is relevant to you. While the plastic trims are available repro for the fc seats I prefer the steel ones for durability, but I don’t know if you can fit them to fc.

Neil,

A fair few of the FE-FC people hunt out good FB-EK front seats. The pressed metal side trims are a major factor.
But there are quite a few differences between FE-FC front seats and FB-EK ones, mainly in the squab. The tops of the FE-FC seat squabs are curved, to blend in with the curve of the rear parcel shelf and sedan rear window opening (as Clay noticed with the rear seat). The FB-EK seat squabs are pretty much straight at the top, and this goes for the front seats too.
In the back of the front seat along the top and the sides, my EK Special had returns, about three or so inches wide, which stuck out maybe 3/4". FE-FC Specials have a smaller return, almost semicircular, along the top of the front seat squab, while in FE-FC Standards the back of the front seat has no styling features at all.

The rims under there at the moment are 16 x 205 and I have plenty of room to the inner guards so I should be able to fit the 17 x 235's after rego I will trial to make sure.

That's not Tangerine Scream, that's "It''ll Give You Welding Flash Yellow" .

Love the colour - it will stand out as different, and should age well over time (some of the colours painted in the 80's and 90's did not... except maybe apricot ).

Can't wait to see some of the big panels in it.

Thanks Blacky it was great to finally see it getting to just this stage I still have 2 areas to repair in the tray and then all good.

Thanks Harv I really want to see it painted to I think it will reallu pop; the colour is from the 2009 to 2015 &*#@ Focus XR5 (I think that is how long it ran) and 2 pac the paint guy is really maticulous with his prep the firewal;l was a smooth as a babies bum before he painted I think it was 4 cooats of base 3 of Pearl and 3 of clear just on the firewall.

Great guy even came to my place to do it.

Next to struggle with the subchassis to the firewall I'm getting too old to be doing this all by myself I better rope my youg guys from work to help out
