Been slowly plugging away at the old girl
Had to change the rocker cover to clear rockers:( (from bocam 5342 9861 not ebay)
And bought her some new red socks today

What size su carbs are they and did they fit without modification to the firewall?
I'm using su carbs in the chopped wagon.

1 3/4"
,no mods to wall ,engine quite close to radiator ,no fan,redline manifold
ill race ya :D
only problem standard fuel pump puts out a bit too much pressure for the old pommy carbs
mine piss out fuel at start up from overflow(only run once a month)dry/stuffed needles?
i think they run at 3 psi and standard holden pump at 7-9?
maybe need a pressure regulator?
or new seats/needles :thumbsup:

Fuel reg is the way to go. A lot of old carbs don't like more than 3psi. Whatever you do don't get the round dial type. They fail a lot! Holley do a low and high pressure reg and they are rebuildable. I've got a low pressure one for my roadster and it's been really good so far. As opposed to the three dial types I've had on it.....

SUs are happy to run on 1½-3½ psi, and overflow around 5 psi. The factory early Holden (grey/red glass bowl) pumps punch out 4½ psi, so can be marginal. One way around the flooding is to use a later Holden (blue motor) steel can type pump. These are rated a bit lower (3.9 psi). Could equally be that the needle tips are a bit manky, or that the Viton is chewed out.

Anecdotally, Stromberg carburettors operate on approximately 2½-4½ psi of fuel inlet pressure from the factory Holden pumps. My bench tests show they begin to pass at 7psi, though if you could miraculously hold them free from vibration, you can get 15psi out of the needle and seat. Holley carburettors are slightly less susceptible, and run happily at 5-7psi.

I have had to muck around a lot with my SU's - was having the same problem - changed the fuel pump to a later one like Harv mentioned above but still had to put a fuel pressure regulator on it to make them happy

picking up my rims and tyres in the morning
the dash is all working apart from the speedo ,calculates miles but no orange raiser?
ive got a spare to try out,fuel gauge works
hopefully not long now :) bitches

Im as happy as a pig in mud!
Ive had a lot of late nights this week double checking everything skinning knuckles petrol spashing in eyes etc...
the mods all passed and so did the safety cert :thumbsup:

so i went and paid another $1000 and got some rego,it was too easy,my 3 year old said as she handed over the plates
can we do burnouts now?(loudish) so funny
the maiden voyage ended not far from home,a dodgy connection on the dizzy,2 mins at a rather busy set of lights....
plugged it in and cruised for 30 ks no problems,pinging a little on the hills ,twist the dizzy all good
dropped a skid...in the country(smoke)
stopped at the bottleshop for a treat and all the bloody flappers are 1/4 to 1/3 out of the rim.......Phark
ill let the tyres down in the morn and rip em out
god i love whitewalls
Id call it finished,so satisfied and now im going to enjoy my favorite car ever(hell ive got tears...)
