Retros first grey motor machine

Post by retro »

Got home today and dad had pulled this out of its corner, so i thought it would be a golden chance to show it off since its last almost completed resto that took a good year, approx 12 litres of paint, a few hot days of rubbing back, and lots of memories.

I originally bought this ute when i was 19-20ish(so circa 2000), when the purchase of the now space aces green machine had the pin pulled, and this came up by mistake in a conversation.

The old girl was bought from some maltese guys at bringelly/kemps creek, it was a totally rust free shell, with straight panels and complete.

Since ownership, the car has now gone through its second restoration, and now sits in the garage (hence the dust) as a reminder of fun times i had in younger days, and is also the storage unit for my fj trim and parts at the moment.

Mechanically its a grey 149, that did run tripples su's, but the stock carb was re fitted when it was getting a bit expensive to run to all the country swap meets. (hell of a lot of fun though). If anyone recalls, it was plated UTE 23K.

god i wish i could afford to keep all my old cars  :(
but maybe it's not afford to keep i also can't see the point in keeping something i don't use, not that it is a bad thing keeping them, the way i look at it is you can only drive one at a time so besides a shopping car i only need one modified car
that's why i'm considering selling the van, been there done that now time for something new

thanks guys.

Ratbox i see your point, my problem is i like the ute, but i also enjoy the fb. If i had the chance to off load the fjs, and the ek, id probally also sell them and by a modern monaro or something that will be a toy and daily driver in one.... but lets see what happens at the moment.

ratbox im not offended, everyone who asks me how many cars do i have always says the same thing.lol.

My problem is i like building them, but become attached in the process, and the attention they create once going and cruising...well that dont help either.

At the moment, the real plan was to get rid of the ek when im married, use two fj's to build a blooming good one, give dad the left overs, and just have an fj (stored), Fb on club plates, and a fe ute swap meet hack. That would be the ultimate plan. BUT who knows, the other option seems to mean less work and headaches at the moment.
