Power Steering??

Post by gmclassic »

:? Anyone out there have infomation or has added power steering to a FB/EK? I am re-doing my older modified FB Special & as the steeringbox is stuffed I thought about using a HQ power box & get the pump, brackets etc for my red engine. I'm running a HR disc front end.

Otherwise what is the options to recondition or another manual box to lighten/improve the steering.

Wheels are 205/60/13s on Am Racers.

G'day Gmclassic. There is,or was, someone selling recoed FB/EK steering columns/boxes on ebay recently for a start up bid of $399.Not sure if it was changeover or outright sale though.Don't know how comparable this price is to prices quoted from steering reconditioners but it gives you a bit of an idea.
Never done a power steer conversion on FB/EK but the pump from HQ and others from any red six holden will fit your red motor.Have a look in magazines and you might come across some professionals who do conversions.Maybe look up Telstra yellow pages in your area under power steering might find something.
I'm sure someone else on this forum might be able to offer suggestions or have done such a conversion as you are contemplating.

Hope this helps,

Terry.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

At least it gives me a price comparison to work off as under my current engineer’s certificate if I change the steering I am up for another one & more $$$
