Well Hello there guys,

Been a while bloody hell another 2 years gone ! The good news house is finished so now I've got some time to tinker.

Started the year with some mods of course, I was never happy with the standard spring hanger set up although the CSR chassis rails weld into them I decided I would muck around and maybe brace them or something, What I ended up doing was spreading them to 2 and 3/4 inches with heat and a gauge/guide so I can fit a set of caltracs just incase I want to do a bit of racing ! I made up a couple of bushes and drilled the existing hole out to 1/2 inch so I can simply bolt the spring and caltracs in and it also makes it easier to remove replace the spring.





I will re weld some heavier bracing from the rail to the hangers and then reinstall the CRS rails shortly.

Sorry for the shit photos I will need to find my camera, the phone photos just don't cut it.

Anyway doing some painting today hopefully on the diff cross members and stuff so will keep you posted.

Hi Guys,

Been busting a nut lately,

Everything has gone wrong! From the rain and flooded shed to blowing up the welder.

Almost finished the body maybe a day or two left.

I was looking at VSB14 and noticed the ruling on the fuel tanks as in position and guess what had to move it all
The rules say that the tank cannot be lower than the plane from the rear tyre grounded to the permanent rear bodywork.
Missed by 50mm!!!
So the tank had to be swapped around, real easy not. I had to cut the entire frame out, relieve the rear boot rail and make up some new frames.



The tank now the right way round but this has now created a small drama of water ingress. I will sort that out tomorrow.



The last photos show all the mounts for the seat belts, sway bar, exhaust hangers and the tub extensions.
Back to the VSB14 that NSW should adopt means no more drop tanks!!

Made up a outdoor sandblasting booth and got most things done for painting which I did today.



Pick it all up tomorrow so I can start assembly of the rear and front ball joints etc.

Well guys still looks like there plenty of activity going on with the forum site, all good to see.

My last major modification finished today which is a relief !

Collapsible steering column, not real hard to do just a pain and time consuming.

I welded some l shape brackets on the pedal box then flipped it over and welded some bracing on the top at different angles to give it some strength.






The final product is very strong and if I lean on the column to simulate steering the column actually flexes the bird cage bit.
You can also see how the column will slide off the specially made release tabs in the unfortunate event of a collision.
I don't think I will be using the original column support at this stage because it is very strong as it is.

Another weekend that has just flown past !
A little more done in regards to bodywork, 2 days of treating every overlapped panel and cavities with some chemical man made fish oil.


Got to be happy with a 9 inch ! Finished this off today as well.

mate , I just noticed on your column mount - isn't it around backwards ? I thought he column as meant to slide out of the bracket in the event of a prang ???

Hey Blacky,

Its the correct way, it is designed to collapse toward the firewall, a little bit of miss conception about columns, as most think it should collapse toward the driver. It does to some extent but the true design is for driver protection, sliding off the tabs toward the firewall so the wheel dosen't hit you in the chest.

This one caused me some heartache on my wagon. First I left the break away mount at the wreckers when I sourced a Torana column . Had to find someone who would sell me just the mount. Then I had the same query as Blacky - which way is it supposed to break away? Greg's right - the break away column mounts are designed to crumple towards the firewall (eg with the vehicle stationary, if you smacked the steering wheel with a BFH, the column breaks away and crumples towards the firewall). The ad below shows the original setup on a HQ, with the little alloy break away bits intact:
