Building 454 ute
Re: Building 454 ute
Hello All,
Front end completed and I am now looking to install a 700r4 auto for the over dive advantage of this model.
I have a question re installation of a HT=HK Auto column as I want to fit this for compliance with collapsible steering but also to retain the original look of the shift.
Has anyone had experience in fitting one of these columns?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Building 454 ute
Just check which column will suit you better, as HK and HT/G auto columns are different.
HKs have a little pointy up bit (technical term) moulded to the coffeepot, HT/Gs have a wire needle indicator.
Ive encountered this issue having a HT column in a HK....I need to jerry something up to have a useful indicator.
Cant help on fitting one into an EK though...sorry.

I have a HK bottom with an EK top courtesy Alien Auto Columns.
And a straightened shifter to fit an FC wheel

Re: Building 454 ute
Battery move to boot!
Re: Building 454 ute
Yep, battery in the boot, brake booster under the guard or dash same with washer bottle , wiper motor and anything
Else you can manage. You will be surprised just how hot it gets in that little bay with a v8. More air moving around the better.

Re: Building 454 ute
Yes battery moved to the back, hi ace booster and pedal assembly under dash. wiper motor under dash as well, I want a clean engine bay but will be tight for room with everything mounted under the dash including heating/cooling.
Re: Building 454 ute
i used a similar set up
with a bell crank brake pedal set up
same as some of the vans run
my wiper motor is under the dash also i used a gemini unit which gave me 2 speeds
had to modify the linkage arms to clear the booster
i have nothing on the firewall
as you said
makes for a clean engine bay
most people look at it and ask
does it run

Re: Building 454 ute
Good to see some progress mate - how much do you need to narrow the Jag stuff to fit underneath ???
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Narrowed XJS front end around 110mm used an E type rear and cage fits within the chassis rails just needs to be adapted to fit using factory mountings
