Fuel Tank. What to do?
Fuel Tank. What to do?
Building a neat EK streetcar and have a dirty old dented fuel tank. Does anyone reco/repair them or make new ones? Has anyone fitted something different other than the original one?

Re: Fuel Tank. What to do?
G'day Waz,
Marty Dean is making beautiful stainless steel tanks of around 60L capacity... bit bigger than original, but a nice deal if you are not going down the restoration route. They are a well built, bolt in product - they come with all the hardware, even fuel sender. Marty gets busy, so it can take some months to get a tank. They are not cheap, but I believe good value - even if I could weld to that standard, the time and materials to make one would be more than Marty charges. He organised freight to NSW for me, can't remember which courier but it arrived well and price was OK.

Re: Fuel Tank. What to do?
VN-S Commodore tanks fit pretty well as do XB Foulcan type ones but they are getting hard to find. Bonus with them though is they have a cutout for a spare wheel to sit into.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Fuel Tank. What to do?
Hey Guys - my ute has a brand new tank fitted - stainless unit but it looks like the unit sits a bit higher so with the sender also sticking up and not recessed the spare is not going to fit - can anyone post up some clear pics of the spare compartment with tank fitted for me to view as I might need to get the tank modified or find an alternative as would be great to keep the are in it's original position.
You will find me lost somewhere!
Re: Fuel Tank. What to do?
Actually never mind guys - just figured out it wont help anyway as the 185/80/13 tyres wont fit through the door so it wont matter how low the sender unit is - bugger
How have people mounted the spare in that case for a ute?

I bought a 155/75/13 - it JUUUUUSSTT fits , you have got no hope of getting a 185 under there.

Re: Fuel Tank. What to do?
ok - thanks Blacky - will leave the current tank alone in that case and use the space for jack and bits and bobs.
Might try and design something for under the timber tray to keep it out of the way.
