Reef Green/Honey Beige FB

Post by Gonedaddy »

I've had this car for almost 25 years. I'd always wanted an early Holden after growing up around them on the farm (EH/HG/HZ utes). This one's a 2 owner WA car and came with a heap of spares. Originally sold by Youngs Holden in Perth. (Bob Young married Miss Australia, Tania Verstack in 1963). I used to knock around with a Rockabilly crowd in Perth, so the first job was lowering it 2 inches after I bought it..

Moved to Melbourne in the mid 90s and after a couple of years it was looking tired and needed some attention. I pulled it apart and fixed what I could in my garage. Found some rust free doors and had some panel work and a fresh coat of paint done. Scored a roll of original salt and pepper upholstory fabric at a swap meet and had the front seat refinished. The original Grey carked it so this one's a low mileage EJ motor. It's still running a generator and vacuum wipers. I've collected a bunch of NASCO parts over the years including scuff plates, parcel shelf, locking petrol cap, fender spears and a reversing lamp. Also got a Speco Twin Manifold and Speco headers and plan to do a mild warm up, add a brake booster and new boots sometime in the near future.

It's been in a few photo shoots and films which is a good way for it to pay for itself. It was in a Fred Schepisi film (Eye of the Storm) and shoots for Myer, Jeanswest and a couple of others.

I've toyed with selling it over the years but I've become too emotionally attached!!

Hey Tim,
Nice ride you have there, I see why you are reluctant to part with it. Thanks for posting some pics.
Regards
Stephen

Hey love your ride. Your FB from Perth, lol I bought mine to Perth from Brisbane. I would like to offer mine for photo shoots, films, how did you go about doing that, was it just word of mouth, or does she have her own portfolio?

I have had people approach me through our club website for vehicles for films, ads , etc and one of our members cars was used in a film last year through this , but they are usually looking for the car for free or they promise an ex gratia payment that usually never eventuates ......
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I work in and around the advertising/photography industry so most of the car jobs have come from word of mouth. We have a 50s era house and collect heaps of old stuff. Word got around about our hoarding tendencies and I get a call for the car or something else every once in a while. I don't usually let anyone else drive the car to or from shoots so it helps if you have a flexible job. As far as payment goes, unless it's a student or charity project, there's always a budget for car/prop rental, even if it's only $100. Don't believe any tv/advertising/photography producer who tells you otherwise! If you really want to go down that path, I'd contact all the production companies and photography studios in town. You won't be able to quit your day job, but it can help pay running costs.

Thanks Devilrod, one of my all time favourites. Even named my kid after the guitarist.

Cheers
