front mounted rack & pinion

Post by southcoastkustom »

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help, especially with pics if possible. I have used a Hadfield modified HR front end in my blue van, with fron mounted rack. The front end was previously used ina an EH with Lexus V8, but I have since removed those mounts and replaced them with Holden 6 mounts.
The problem I have run into is that the engine mount on the drivers side is now directly in the way of the steering rod. CRS have very average after sales servise, so they are no help...in fact, he told me to die grind some of the mount away (not cool by me).
Is this problem beause I used an original mount and not the triangular style used by CRS or is there another solution..? :?: :?:
I have already fitted the engine, which seems certain will havce to come out, but I am not keen to remove front end again :?
Any help/ pics would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Its the rod. Havent taken a pic and car is at mates workshop. Back tomorrow to growl at it so will take pics then. If I look at my V8 mounts, the rod runs pretty close, but they are the proper CRS mounts. Getting frustrated....so close, yet so far :?
not too shiny thankyou.

this may not help you alot im not sure ...

this front end is in an EH, its a hr front end with a torana rack mounted by my dad in very similar fashion to that of the CRS ones you mention.

the mount is in the original HR location .... i had a feeling though you needed to put the mounts at the very rear of the hr crossmember in a ek with 202 ? if thats the case i reckon you will have problems ... maybe you can put the mounts in a different location and run a flat bar from the block forwards to where they line up then weld the original holden 6 brackets to that ?

anyways heres the pic ...

i asked crs and they said to move it

once relocated to the rear (where it should be to fit a red in)

the rod clears no worries

Not sure how clearly these show my problem, but it apears that I need a narrower engine mount that might sit closer to the Y-frame whils still puting the mount hole high enough and in the right position... :?:
Kind of, like this...

Any further thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Remember i shortened my column a little which gave me a better angle for the steering shaft.

Thanks CB, I reckon Im gonna call CRS tomorrow and see if they will sell me a couple of mounts, and then...out comes the motor (again)
Looks as tho the CRS mounts not only sit in closer to the Y-frame, but a tad higher as well which may be the answer.
At least I'm only pulling out a 202 and not the 308!!! :?
