the "Shop" manual....

Might be a stupid question but these codes which one is a EK sedan.

I need to find out the heaviest weighted sedan in the EK range .

Has to be sedan not station wagon.

As this is my first time on a forum, please bare with me as I'm a L plater.

From the few posts I have read there looks to be some interesting and great people and cars out there.

I have a EK 225 1961 of which I am hoping to modify as it is not up to restoring to original but isn't to bad for age.

I have been talking to my engineer regarding mods I would like to carry out and one of the first things is an engine transplant.

For this I require an official source of the weigh as stated earlier in this thread, but I am wondering do these weights include the Hydramatic or manual transmission. As I have read that the Hydramatic adds 75lbs/34kg to the 2490lbs/1129kg. If so where can I get this information.

You will need to be very, very careful about what standard or code of practice your engineer is using, as they all define "weight" differently. For example, if you are using NCOP, the following could apply:

The original (unmodified) tare mass of the vehicle has been taken as 2490lb (1129.4kg). This is the curb weight for an EK 225 (Special Sedan) as published in the General Motors Holden Factory Workshop Manual, being the heaviest sedan version of the EK Holden model sold in Australia. The mass includes the largest engine available for the EK Holden model in Australia (the 138ci “grey” motor) but without optional accessories (towbar etc). From Table LA1, as the vehicle originally weighs more than 1100kg and is proposed to be naturally aspirated, the recommended maximum engine capacity is (1129.4 x 5.0 =) 5647cc. It is proposed to install a General Motors Chevrolet small-block 327ci engine. With a bore and stroke of 4.000 inches and 3.25 inches respectively, this engine has a capacity of 5357cc, being 5% smaller than the recommended maximum engine capacity noted above.

This is the weight writeup I am using to certify a SBC in my EK wagon.

FWIW:
• a used grey crashbox, without oil, clutch or flywheel, weighs approximately 27kg.
• a used red crashbox weighs 21.0kg (6kg of this is the bellhousing).
• a used Aussie 3 speed weighs 27.5kg (without bellhousing).
• a used hydramatic weighs 47.5kg.

Has anyone out there had their EK ute (std) on the scales? I'm interested in finding out the "real" weight as opposed to what's in the book.
My FB sedan (225) in comparison feels a vastly heavier car for the 93kg difference. And no jokes about being a fat bastard!

Hi Craig,
Yep had my stock EK ute over the weigh bridge many times picking up sand etc and the scales show 1250kg empty with just me in it.
