Ok replaced coil no difference
Vacuum advance is working ok
Still waiting for my twin carbies to be reco , that's got me thinking we have tried 4 different carbies on the motor one being a reco carb . Now the motor has had a bit of work done to it red motor valves etc could it be starving for fuel idles perfect but I can throttle through it with working the throttle under the bonnet some times good and other times backfires and farts take it for a drive and no chance under load just dies could it bE starving for fuel on a single carby but i did have twins on it at first as well thou. Will try tomorrow to spray a bit of carb cleaner into it when it starts to fart and see if it picks up.
What do you think.

Did the mechanics check the cam timing. One tooth out and the car will be a dog. Did they do a compression test. What did they say about oil leaking. I cant believe they handed the car back to you without solving the problem.
It still sounds like ignition.
A mildy worked grey motor should still run on a single carb.

Yes they said they checked cam timing and when right over the valves and rechecked everything the oil leak turned out to be the back of the tappet cover gasket didn't even think to check that did compression test all equal . They tried a few things regarding swapping carby redid timing etc.
There reply to me was they have checked the motor over and all good there end , you must have an electrical issue that we no nothing about and suggest to take it to someone that knows more on the issue of electrics.

The car before I took the old motor out was running fine without any issues the only issue was water in sump .
Taking it to another mechanic tomorrow for them to have a look for there opinion .
The only thing I have not replaced electrically is dizzy cap ,rotor and leads .
I really don't know what my next step is .

The car is now known as Lucifer

Another mechanic

Can't believe the workshop who recoed your engine would just give it back saying its electrical so its not work they've done, not my business Paul but if you had a full rebuild on a grey with head mods (i.e. red motor valves etc) as well as mild cam, rings and bearings etc. I'm thinking "workshop labour rates", cost of parts and machining you probably have outlayed a couple of grand, and they want to tell you to take it elsewhere

As far as your last comment about not having changed the dissy cap, rotor and leads I thought the mechanic would have changed these to rule them out particularly as he said it's electrical

So much for pride in workmanship (yeah I know I'm old with old fashioned values) I hope you get it sorted soon mate

Went to auto electrics today and all good so that leaves fuel problem, so car is going to Carbi-tech tomorrow and I guess if that's no good the only thing I haven't checked is tyre pressure.
