under car cleening
Does any one have any suggestions on how to remove the tar, grime, greese and shit that builds up after fifty years fron the undersde of the floor pans? I have my wagon completley stripped and on a rotissery, have pressure washed but still not good enough to paint Help please
Re: under car cleening
Scrapers and wire brushes, I know it doesn't sound like fun,
but its cheep and easy, just add elbow grease.
Luckily your car is on its side, I did it laying on my back underneath it, eating crud.
Cheers
Jeff

Like Thommo says - EG is the best way of getting that blasted stuff off.
I found a trick in it after a lot of cursing on my back with flakes and chips going all over me and under my clothes.... I painted on enough kero and degreaser the day before to soak into the crud... then with a fairly sharp scraper (paint scraper) with the corners rounded off so not to gouge into the metal.... just worked it and worked it until I got down to the metal.... once that far down, it was fairly easy to push the scraper at the right angle - and it came off in sheets... there was always the little bits in valleys and around joints that had to be worked out... I ended up making a number of tools to do the job... some of which were from fine bladed knives....
Kero and degreaser won't threaten your metal... I'm not confident that oven cleaner will afford you the same safety.... especially when it gets in to cavities and hidden joints...
Of course - there is plan "B"... a low heat torch.... heat gun even........but I wouldn't be game.... some would, not me.......I'm an old plodder - and work at my own pace.... the mechanical method suits me just fine.....
My thoughts..

Oven cleaner does the trick i used six cans of Bamm at$3 a can it took 50 years of shit off in 30 minutes just spray on and pressure wash . Back to bear metal even the spray on tare gone . the complete floor pan shone like a new pin ,clean with deoxidine and ready to paint
