I'm hoping to get it finished by the Nats but I think I'll run out of time. It's taken 8 months to get this far and June isn't that long off, and as usual I've got too many other projects on the go as well. Time will tell I guess.
Hi all,
just a couple of pics after the first coat of paint went down this week. Am pretty happy as it come up pretty good straight off the gun.
All underneath is finished paint wise. Next lot is guards and doors then then we can hit it with the Apache red down the side. Cant wait to see the red when it gets on. Still waiting on all my chrome work which is due in couple of weeks.
Making some progress this weekend but had a bit of a set back with the engine.
As I'm modifying the lube system for a full flow filter set up I thought I'd pull the pistons and crank out to make sure I can clean the block properly after the work. It was a good thing as I found most of my conrod bearings stuffed. Crank is good and measures up ok so now I'll have to look further at the cause. So far after only 30,000 miles a few lifters have lost their case hardening and now 4 out 6 conrod bearings have major wear (splayed out). The engine never had any water in oil issues, always good oil pressure, and was always well serviced. I'm now thinking of too much advance bordering on pinging or the rods/bearings weren't cleaned properly before fitting. I had the engine built by RPM Engines quite a while back as I just didn't have the time to do it. Wishing I had now.

Also got the headlining bows painted, gearbox overhauled and primed for painting. Busting for the chrome work to get finished as its been over 8 weeks now.
Work continues..........................
Thanks Stewart. Not a biggie I guess; at least I caught it in time and didn't stuff the crank or rods.
After looking over all the bearings and checking all measurements I'm of the belief now that the block was not cleaned out sufficiently after machining before it was assembled. All of the bearings including the mains look to have material embedded in them so a lot of crap has gone through the whole system. Now its a definite go ahead for the full flow oil filter. Even went out and bought all my tube fittings to do the job!

On the plus side we've finally got the red done on the car. Now just have to finish coating the insides of the front guards, complete the final rub down and top coat in clear. Must say, I'm loving the red!!!!
