you know how beauracratic bullshit goes thommo state govts not talking to each other etc   it's a joke especially when the rules from state to state are basically the same, same with the disc brake thing it's basically bolt in job to have balljoints and disc brakes rather than king pins and drum brakes yet you need to shell out money for some one to say it's ok, the only time i ever engineered just a front end the engineer couldn't believe i was asked for a report and never even looked at the car the report was done over the phone
to many rules made up by guys that would probly struggle to change a tyre  :x
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

As a side note the car has V******P engraved on both the LH subframe, and plenum chamber/firewall.
Might call the RTA and ask if they can look it up - would save a helluva lot of time

Spoke to the RTA today, and Vicroads - neither could shed any light on the numbers engraved on the plenum and subframe.
RTA won't entertain the idea of registering it as is just because it's been rego'd in Vic either, so bye bye 202 (suits me fine, not particularly attached to it  )
Spoke to an engineer who generously spent some of his time explaining what i can and can't do.
He suggested either running the 149 with the HR disc front and trying to get away with it,
or 149 and EH front end - no VCSSC or whatever it is required.
Said to run the 202 I'd need to have a collapsible column and retractable seat belts to have it engineered (sounded a bit over the top really).
I think i'm onto an EH front so going down that path at this stage

I had my FB wagon rego'd as stock, running a grey motor but with a HR disc front, got a RWC and Rego no questions asked  .

Yeah i'm quite sure i'll be able to squeeze it through with the HR front - who would argue with a modification that makes the car safer.
I still think the number engraved is an old engineers approval (why else would the number be engraved twice on the car?) so if the mystery engineer was happy with the welds on the engine mounts and outrigger I think they'll be fine - will double check with my limited knowledge to see if they look okay.
So all is looking good, just a fresh 149 and she's good to rock and roll 8)

Dammit!!!
Oh well, after checking with Vicroads and RTA the car didn't come up as being stolen/rebirthed etc anyway so that's okay.
Thankyou for that info anyway Tim, much appreciated at least i know now

A little update for those interested....The car snowballed
Stripped back, 202 and 4 speed were sold, as were the monaro buckets that were in it.
Fixed the doglegs, sills and rear beaver, currently rubbing back the engine bay for a fresh coat of gloss black.
It will be done as a sort of resto-mod i guess you'd call it.
Original colours where possible and practical, will try to get the right upholstery and dye to the right colour if necessary but that can be done further down the track.
Picked up a rebuilt 149 that hasn't been run in yet from a mate for $1000 - gave me the receipt and he's not dissappearing anytime soon - said if there are any issues we can pull it back out and take it back to the engine builder.
Nabbed a rebuilt trimatic for $200, and a complete EH front end for $20, plus fresh kingpins and front brakes for $100.
So far including stuff i've sold, the car only owes me $2500 so it's not too harsh on the pocket considering I've still gotta get my EK started and finished  Gotta keep this one as cheap as i can seeing as they're not worth alot anyway.
No point adding photos yet, nothing particularly interesting it's just sitting diagonally across the shed as i chip away at it in my own awkward ways.

A 149 is heaps

If I ever got the bug to replace a grey with a red again, I'd go for a 149 with a cam. Sometimes less is more
