Red Motor. EH sump. New Dipstick location?
Hi There.
I have fitted a 202 into the EK and have EH sump and pickup also. The red is actually a 3.3 from a VB and has the dipstick tube to the front of the block. Obviously with the EH sump the oil pan is to the back of the engine. Looking for advise on putting a plug in the front tube location and fitting a new tube and dipstick to the back position on the block.
Do I need a genuine EH dipstick? Can I relocate the one I have? can I buy a brass plug or similar for the front location? just don't know how i'll measure oil with this combination?
Any comments welcome.
thanks, Ted

Wouldn't the blue motor dip stick still measure the rite level of oil, doesn't matter what sump is on there?
I would use the one thats with the blue motor
.

on a blue motor with commodore (front drop) sump the dip stick tube mounts into the sump (or is part of the sump) the dip stick mounting hole is still in the block in the blue motor i would just say it is blocked off with something so you either have to knock out what ever is blocking the hole at worst drill it then just fit a red motor dip stick and tube in the hole

Thanks,
You're right. The 3.3 has the dipstick direct into the sump at the front.
Today I removed the EH sump, and knocked out the little plug in the back of the block for the normal dipstick position.
I'll go and buy a new tube and stick and hopefully it will read accurate.

before you put any oil in, find out how much it should hold and put that amount in. chuck the dipstick in and see what it reads?

The dipstick will now be located in the front seat, facing the steering wheelTEDSEK wrote:I have fitted a 202 into the EK

And then mark a line on it with a file or dremel...muza wrote:before you put any oil in, find out how much it should hold and put that amount in. chuck the dipstick in and see what it reads?

same could be said about someone that spends thousands of dollars and countless hours searching for elusive parts to make an old engine go as good as one you could pick up off ebay for a hundred bucks or get off a mate for a case of beerMeFB wrote:The dipstick will now be located in the front seat, facing the steering wheelTEDSEK wrote:I have fitted a 202 into the EK

I'm picking up another grey motor from another forum member in a couple of week's time for a bottle of bourbon. Does that count?Mick wrote:so it'll cost a hundred bucks thensometimes yor even lucky enough to get 'em off strangers for a case of beer

I gotta agree that red motors are an all round 'better' motor than the grey. I put a 202 in my ute, but regretted it because when it came to it I didn't actually need or use the extra power. If I was towing a caravan or a boat it would be a different story though.

Hey tedsek.
Just went through the exact same process with my project. I've got a VK Blacky in my FB.
The tube goes into the casting just behind the dizzy, it protrudes 6 inches from the point of entry.
The dipstick is 14 inches long from the tip to the flange bit where it meets the top of the tube.
I also checked this by filling with the prescribed amount checking the marks. It all checked out spot on. The tube and stick I got from a HQ (i think) I found at the wreckers.
