Rusty EK,s Ute
Re: Rusty EK,s Ute
Got a couple of spare days , while other stuff is being sorted , so am back having a mad rush on the ute .
Got the roof insulation on and the headlining in yesterday , and the front and back screens in today , screens went in pretty easy , was expecting it to be a pain in the bum , so am happy
Going to try and get the doors sanded and buffed tomorrow and try and get them on over the weekend , fingers crossed

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer

Thanks Muza
Gee John the rate of a crawl I have slowed down to lately , you wont have much of a race , am going to do the sedan before the wagon , she will have to sit and wait her turn
Hey Lacky , you having problems with your screens ? There is some good info on the forum about fitting them , just followed that and had no dramas .

Re: Rusty EK,s Ute
Unfortunately yes! Not sure if it is because it has been out for over a decade but when we put the chrome in the rubber, put it on the glass it wouldn't fit in the car. Even tried putting the chrome in last. We got it in eventually but it didn't sit at all well and wouldn't have been water-proof as the glass was being forced out of the rubber. After 3 weekends we decided that we would leave it up the professionals. I'll feel more confident that it will be done properly ...Rusty EK wrote: Hey Lacky , you having problems with your screens ? Anyway this is not my thread, it's yours and I'm lovin 'it
Re: Rusty EK,s Ute
They are a tight fit , had to give mine quite a few gentle taps to get it to slide down at the bottom , to give enough room for the top to fit in, think I just got lucky .

Re: Rusty EK,s Ute
The last EK I built in my shop before closing used a complete rubber kit (NOT!) from a local supplier
I have been fitting window to cars for over 35 years, some original others cut down or even custom made and sometimes it is a real pain.
But fter six attempts at fitting the front scren in the EK I walked away for a short while.
Luckily I had access to another rubber from the same manufacturer to compare. What was found was a diffence in overall length of almost 25mm!
The long rubber made it impossible to get the screen to fit and all mouldings to sit correctly.
After fitting the second rubber to the glass and then the moulds it all went into place and fitted as best as we could expect it to be concidering.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is walk away for a while and have a think and a look at what is going on .
You would think from the same manufacturer they would be somewhere near the same , that extra 25mm would have made it impossible .
Have used Rares rubbers ,Have heard mixed feelings on them , but I could deal locally with them , so went this way , and so far everything is fitting good , see if I am still smiling this arvo after fitting the doors .
Anyway Frost is melting down here now , so am off to the shed

A couple of more steps closer to being a real car
Two doors and a guard , have to panel beat my other guard spear , took me most of a day to do this side one and cleanup all the clips
