The Project Goes Injected.
Exciting times! Picked up the motor from the re-builders yesterday. Here it is all in bits. Block bored it 20 thou, new camshaft, pistons, valves, bearings, and lifters. Head has new seats and guides. All I need to do is put it together. Bought a VK Commodore service manual off eBay so I'll have all the torque settings and other specs. I'll start tomorrow on the head.

Lapped the valves and installed them in the head on Sunday. Waiting on the VK service manual so I can proceed with the rest (getting the manual for the torque and clearance specs). Bought a valve spring compressor for the job, can't believe I've never used one. Makes the job about a million times easier. This is only the second full rebuild I've done, the last one was the grey in the EK. The only major difference here as far as I can tell is with the rocker gear and the lifters.
More engine work over the last few days in the shed. Got that manual for the VK commodore. So started with the laying of the crank and checking clearances. All within tolerances. Proceeded with the rest of the process. (man, the rope seal is tight! ) Timing gear, camshaft, checked ring depth and end gap, installed pistons, big ends, etc. Had a chance to use the new toy. A digital torque adaptor. I used this in conjunction with my normal "twisty handle" torque wrench. This allowed me to set the clicker spot on, as well as having a second reference point. Oil pump, head, timing cover and rocker cover on and we're ready for a cost of paint. I decided Chevy orange is the way to go, which meant painting the intake manifold to match. Today we attach the tranny and hoist it into the car.

looking good richard trev said your injection is a work of art looking forward to seeing it in the flesh if ya missus let u drive it
Big milestone! The motor and tranny are in the car. And I'm chuffed! Massive thanks to Trevor for coming over to help slot it into the engine bay. Also while we were at it we fitted the exhaust and intake manifolds. Just to see I attached the intake pipe with the K&N pod filter. I'm usually as partial to a nice set of S/U's or Strommies as the next bloke, but I must admit the pod feeding into the TB/ intake runners looks pretty cool.
Im also happy with the way she sits now with the motor in. Not too high, slightly lower toward the front. Now the fun starts. Dial in the ignition, then test the fuel pressure into the rail, then, if I can get it to run, I'll be doing the 20 minute camshaft run-in while frantically watching the strobe, oil pressure, temperature, listen for bad noises as well as watching vital signs ( MAP, pulse width, O2 sensor, dwell and advance) on the laptop.

I'll have another go at posting. I wasn't sure if my last post ( with pics) worked. Try again:
