Used 2 pack Cobra was 15 degrees on the weekend so used my worklights to heat the panel.Used 30% thinners and heated the paint in hot water while still in the can.
Base coat.Apache Red 2 good coats
Clear coat 1 tack coat and 2 wet coats.
Looks pretty good but I got a run on the front of the bonnet as the compressor kicked in just as i went from horizontal to vertical.Argghh!
Left it until late Sunday then used 2000 wet and dry to sand it back then unmasked it and left it till Monday night
sanded it some more then used rubbing compound by hand then some glaze compound by hand. The paint was still too new to put a buffer on but I had to get rid of the run.
Cleaned and polished the jewellery while it was off the car
Put the bonnet letters on last night.Had to use speed nuts as some of the original clips pushed out the back and wouldn't hold.Couldn't find the same pin clips anywhere and rare spares were useless. Also fitted the "Bird" with the help of my lovely wife.I tried making a rubber base so it wouldn't dig into the paint but it was a pain so just bolted it straight on after careful manipulation to get the pins in the holes.Did all this without damaging the paint.
Gave the car a Meguiars quick wax and polished all the stainless and chrome and went to bed.
Tonight i fitted the bonnet bar.topped up the coolant, vacuumed and put my tools and spares in the boot, cleaned the windows.
Weather's supposed to be improving so should be a good weekend.
My son sent me the link thinking this looked like my old EK. Looking at your photos I'd say it was. I painted the steering wheel and all the knobs with a white pearl when I painted the car. I painted the car back in 1992 and it was a pale blue before I started. I put FB door trims in it and they were painted with vinyl paint back then. If it was my car it should have a HAdfield chassis kit and the motor will have cast iron headers. The colour painted was an original GM Apache Red for that year. I painted it in my shed at that time and was painted in acrylic. It was an all synchro 3 speed with matching red and white HK buckets then, dont know what happened to them as they looked better. Probably got some pics somewhere.

Thanks Dallas
I think it is the same car .I bought it from a guy called Joe (well his daughter) in Bundoora and I have a rego slip with the name Dallas ......on it.I would love to catch up with you and have a look at any build up shots etc.I've got some buckets that I got with the car getting retrimmed and getting it back to a retro look.I've put blue dots in the tail lights and had some pinstriping done.Want to fit whitewalls and a sunvisor. The paintwork is still in fairly good condition and I just came back from the Nats in Mt Gambierand she didn't miss a beat.
Mick
