ITS SHMEAGAIN Good to see you back in to it
Re: Chev EK
Hi Guys,
I know this has been done a thousand times before but this is the way I have done my seat belt mounts.
In NSW the mounting plates must have a surface area of at least 3750mm contact with the body. They can be any shape as long as they conform to the body or floor contour.
The plates must be at least 3mm thick, so I decided on a custom shape bracket.
I shaped it so it to slide under a relieved section then I will fully weld it in place. It actually gives me approx 4250mm surface area, and will be damn near impossible to pull out. Engineer likes it as well.
Regards Greg

Re: Chev EK
Looking good mate.
I spoke at length about seat belt mounts with my engineer and he suggested 3mm plate and no thicker as he said a little give / bend in the case of an accident is bonus. I had already done the B pillars in 4x50mm and he said not to change it but use 3mm from now on. Each to their own I supppose, it wont worry me cause i'm not gunna crash!

Re: Chev EK
Lunch time update,
Finished off the seat belt mounts,
Decided to cut the B pillar on the side slide the plate in and plug weld the plate and then fill the side hole.
Back to work after lunch still more bits and pieces to tidy up, will keep you all posted.

Re: Chev EK
Some nice work there Greg , good to see some more progress on her .
Re: Chev EK
Hi Guys,
Been busting a nut lately,
Everything has gone wrong! From the rain and flooded shed to blowing up the welder.
Almost finished the body maybe a day or two left.
I was looking at VSB14 and noticed the ruling on the fuel tanks as in position and guess what had to move it all
The rules say that the tank cannot be lower than the plane from the rear tyre grounded to the permanent rear bodywork.
Missed by 50mm!!!
So the tank had to be swapped around, real easy not. I had to cut the entire frame out, relieve the rear boot rail and make up some new frames.
The tank now the right way round but this has now created a small drama of water ingress. I will sort that out tomorrow.
The last photos show all the mounts for the seat belts, sway bar, exhaust hangers and the tub extensions.
Back to the VSB14 that NSW should adopt means no more drop tanks!!
Regards Greg

can't stop a drop tank in a car that was factory fitted with one who'de want a drop tank anyway godawfull ugly looking bits of crap, unless you had an A9X or simular and i'de still rather not have the tank and associated bolt on fibreglass guess i won't be buying one of them any time soon

Mick your right, drop tanks are ugly and I dont know what I was thinking at the time I put it in. I think I was worried about the diff hitting the tank so thats another drama I may have to face yet.Mick wrote:that's IF VSB14 ever gets introduced

NSW has gone funny with the rules right at this point in time pre ADR cars have no regulation and it is rumoured that any size engine can slot in, although getting a ballsy engineer is the problem right now !!
Once again the bean counters and safety sams have combined with no idea what the outcome of their actions will be.

Re: Chev EK
Hi Greg, I had the same type tank in my sedan when I got it but it was in back t front so the biggest part of the tank was at the back. At the time I didn't realise why but now it makes sense now it was so the diff would fit better. It did look like a drop tank at the back.EK283 wrote: I think I was worried about the diff hitting the tank so thats another drama I may have to face yet.

Re: Chev EK
Mick,
Have a look at this website it has the lot in regard to the current NSW laws
http://sites.google.com/site/no2vsccs/1 ... l-position
With Interest
REMOVAL OF STANDARDS FOR PRE-ADR VEHICLE
1. Engine Changes
As the law stands (post December 2011) there is nothing to prevent a large engine being fitted in a small car built before 1972; for example an 8litre V8 in a Datsun 1000. This was a safety issue recognised by the RTA and was one of the reasons for the introduction into law of the LVCOP. What does the RMS intend to do about this?
2. VSB14 Limitations
Modifications to pre-ADR vehicles, such as the above, would be limited if VSB14 was included in the legislation. How do you propose to deal with this given that VSB 14 is a guide and not law?
I have a feeling the RTA/RMS maybe stalling because of pressure from the insustry and stakeholders alike, I will be going this weekend and I believe there will be a lot of cars to look at.

Re: Chev EK
yeah i'll be there to i've sujested to some higher up people that i know that will be in the actual conferance that maybe they try to organise the minister and others for a bit of a drive and look over some of our "death traps" and disscussion with owners (of coarse picking the appropriate cars and owners) so they can see that the cars are done safe and that we do it as a hobby not to kill everybody around us

Re: Chev EK
Well guys more exciting cars nearly finished and some more builds being done both stock and modified, can't get much better than that !!!!!!
Update,
Finally finished the body shell apart from panel alignment but now ready to splash some paint on.
Before that happens I have to paint all the inside panels, sills, roof rails, a and b pillars etc etc. I need to do this because of the acid dipping the shell copped 6 years ago
Many people over look this process and regret it a bit later down the track.
Weapons of choice are Penatrol and silver Penatrol. This is a oil based rust preventer that sucks into any surface rust and seals hopefully forever.
Lashed out and bought a special gun and nozzle that sprays 360 degrees
Also did the last bit of rust and got the old girl in the sun for the first time in 5 years.
Will finsh off the internal panels before I get any water near it and start the suntanning, will keep you posted.
Regards Greg
