Help choosing diff

Hi, I'm after a bit of advice on what sort of diff to go for with my ek, I'm planing on having a red 202 with period type go fast bits eg triple carbs and I'm thinking that a 5 speed of some sort would be cool (celica?) but I'm not really sure which way to go with the diff? any advice would be muchly appreciated

Easy conversion is HR.
Volvo disc rear with a bit of welding.

Early Hilux is a bolt in but you will need a stud pattern change as Hilux is fraud pattern.

Dunno if they clear 13 inch wheels but they definitely clear 14s.

Lots of ratios available but the common ones are more suitable to drag racing(4.1,4.3,4.5 etc)

Lim slips are available but expensive.

They are identical width to a HR diff and the saddles are in the same place as HR as well.

Flat flange type yoke which as its Toyota like your sillycar 5 speed,should make shortening a standard Hilux tailshaft a cheap and simple execise.

You will have absolutely no chance of busting one with a red street engine.Ever.

Also to add, Hilux have a 8 inch crown wheel.4.5's are out of a 2.4 deisel, and 4.3's out of a 2.8 deisel.
4.88 are the strongest Hilux centre with a 8 tooth pinion. You can pick up 4.1 out of V6 4Runners.
Broken quite a few of all of these, but not in a Holden

Did some measuring today with the Volvo diff I have here for my rod project. They are popular with the rodders due to the strength and width, I beleive they are a Dana. EK drum face to face measures 1415mm, Volvo diff hub face to face 1405mm and are the same stud pattern. Was hoping that someone had already done this conversion using the IRS set up also have an LH Torana diff here so I'll get the tape out tomorrow and check as i'm looking to use the Torana front suspension also a common conversion to the Torana front suspension is Impreza power steering.

Read in Street Machine that early 90's Skyline / Pintara rear is very close to same width as HR; has disc rear but 4 stud. Need to grind off all the fittings. any one tried this option?

Theres a few over this side of the paddock running Skyline diffs, with the axles redrilled to 5 stud.

my mate has an eh and we put a centura diff in it.which i put a spool in. was narrower so he moved the centres of the wheels in the rims. it had drum brakes and 28 spline axles the same size as a vn commodore. hence the spool.tuff diff. should never break.

Centura diffs were pretty popular in their day , but its getting real difficult to get brake parts for them now.

I'm currently halfway through putting xf falcon discs onto my centura diff(in my project EK), but for the cost and ease having a reputable shop cut down a bw from a commo or falcon (IN MY OPINION) would be the best money spent especially for parts and reliability,cheers, Nick.
