Who to use for insurance?
Who to use for insurance?
Hi all,
Interested to know who you guys use for insurance on your FB/EK's?
Haven't done any shopping around yet, but is it worth using RACV etc, or just best to go straight to Shannons?
Also do they have a basic market value or do you come up with an agreed value with them?
Cheers Muza

Re: Who to use for insurance?
I'm very happy with Shannons, had to make a claim a few years ago and was really happy with the service
In my experience like most things, you get what you pay for

Re: Who to use for insurance?
racv veteran and vintage. free roadside assist included and discounted if racv member (more discount for more years a member) and more discount if you have other policies with them. I have business, house and contents, 2 daily drivers, fb and ek and total discount equals almost free insurance for the fb! stu

but what about speed ?

Re: Who to use for insurance?
Have had nothing but excellent service from Shannons. Been looked after 100%...if anything they surprise me just how well they treat their clients/customers. Don't want to sound like I'm blowing smoke up their ass, but I'll never insure my cars with anyone else.
On the other hand, my wife's car is with RACQ and they have been nothing but a pain to deal with. I need to get off my butt and change her car over to Shannon's as well.
Cheers, Scott

Re: Who to use for insurance?
Shannons are part of the Suncorp brand.
NRMA and RACV are not the same. Since NRMA was privatised (thanks Dawn Fraser) thier poicies are geared towards the shareholder's not the members.
RACQ are 50/50 (i think) club and GIO. My car and house are/were with them, but since the floods up here in Jan, I have been removing my policies from them to another insurer. Their rates have been inordinately high, the excess continues to grow and the cover has diminished in recent times. However, they have replaced a few windscreens on the car policy with no hassle.
On a side note, my current car used to be my mum's. She hit a cow about 6yrs ago in it and had it repaired by the RACV. The clear coat failed last year, so I rang RACV and they repaired the paint under the guaranteed for life policy. So in this instance, they did the right thing by me.
Price can be a deciding factor, but peace of mind should be too.
Cheers,
POPOK

Re: Who to use for insurance?
Shannons - got all my gear insured with them , the wife had a claim in her daily and the whole process was absolutely pain free.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Who to use for insurance?
Cheers for the replys fellas, will shop around today, let you's know the outcome with price etc.
I can't imagine the price to be hugely different, but who knows with these mobs
More after piece of mind, being looked after more than just a number.
Mrs has her cars with RACV. Had no dramas with them but from what I've heard with cars older etc Shannons are supposed to be the go.
Haven't had to insure an older car for years so it'll be interesting to see if much has changed.
Cheers Muza

Re: Who to use for insurance?
don't be to sure on the price differance
don't know how the rego works in VIC but in NSW we have to get a yearly compulsory third party insurance (greenslip) and even on my hacks (dailys) haveing the insurance with shannons has saved me well over $100 on each car, alot of other companys will have the same deal
in NSW (probably other states aswell) there's a new mob unfortunately can't think of there name basically the same as shannons only deal in enthoosiest cars and drivers

Re: Who to use for insurance?
Righto, just got off the phone to Shannons.
They can insure it sight unseen for $7500.
If I send them pics of it, or take it to them to inspect $10000. Didn't get a quote for any higher.
$235 p/a, lifetime guarantee on repairs, repairer of my choice, also told him it would be driven daily
$200 excess.
Don't think I'll bother shopping around after that, pretty happy with it.
Great service, typed my phone number into they're internet site and not 2 minutes later they called. And it was an Australian number with an Aussie on the other end
Fella on the phone was very helpful.
