I was told the hose at the bottom of heater goes to inlet side to help stop air being trapped in the heater that's how I did mine anyway

Hard to tell from photos but at a guess I would say yes mainly it is just to bleed the system of air

Sam,

B to D is what Billy is suggesting. The amount of air trapped is going to be pretty negligble - most of the time it doesn't matter whether B is connected to C or D.

Sam.
The std EJ brass bodied, cable activated tap mounts on a pipe about 4" long which goes in the 1/2"BSP threaded hole in the top of the cylinder head water jacket just inboard of the carby ie where you have marked ' C' . Things may get a bit confusing if it only has one threaded hole but I think they were much earlier heads - if that is the case then I have no idea short of some complex plumbing, lol ?
From there, when the tap is opened, the water will flow through the heater hose to the heater inlet pipe closest to the control valve on the heater itself, flow through the heater as nature intended, then exiting and returning through a heater hose and back to 'D' (water pump).
Cheers,

hey Dave. good to c u guys on weekend.

Sorry but u your confusing me. Harv said B - D. = A - C.

is that what u r saying too???

that second pic is the set up at the moment = without the heater being connected. C - D is a loop

????

Hi Sam
I just modified my post which is hopefully clearer. It probably doesn't matter much which pipe you connect with hoses at the actual heater but the other stuff stands. Right now you just have the water outlet (on the head) joined to the inlet (on the water pump) via a length of hose.

Sam.

Yeah, clear as mud, lol!

While you are working out your options plug both the outlet and inlet on teh engine and loose the hose - it is the unecessary weak link in your cooling system.
