Who went to Sydney Super Swap?

Post by wot179 »

So who went, what did you think and what did you score?

I managed a window winder for the tailgate on the HT Goon.

Lots there, but mostly for top dollar.

It was fun, despite the friggin humidity.

Bought a rear over rider, then showed it to the guys that were there that do re chroming, who told me it was too farked to re chrome. Oh well, 20 bucks down the drain

Some stuff was expensive, though still cheaper than Ebay. Was damn hot though

Thanks Mick. Nearly bought a mountain bike for 50 bucks at the swap....................to keep company with the one already in my shed collecting dust

Saw you there, though you were deep in conversation with your mates. Didn't want to butt in

I got a stack of small block /big block chev gaskets, rings bearings etc. All new stuff.
A p51 mustang kit for ten bucks that turned out that half of it was missing.
My three year old daughter got a toy thomas style engine and a stuffed tweety pie.
The best thing for me was a quad cam Maserati V8 engine that I'd been trying to get for years.
The guy finally realised he would never do anything with it.
Im not real sure what I'm going to do with it either but its way cool.

Are they the ones with two plugs per cylinder ? There was an old Maserati in the shed where we built the cars for Running On Empty , had two plugs per pot and lots of cast alloy bits , it was a cool looking engine 8)
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I bet that dual ignition engine was one of ernie nunns engines from his hydro wasp. this engine is the same but not dual ignition. you can drill the heads to run the second plugs though.
I've been thinking all day what I can put it in. I though of an italian themed hot rod or even a recreation of a fifties race car.

Quad cam Maserati V8? Something tells me they wouldn't be the easiest or cheapest things to find?
Sounds cool, we need some photos. Put it in an EK for sure 8)

I paid way less for it than a stuffed incomplete repco grey head.
I sent thommo a pic. If you send me your email I can send you a pic or contact thommo and see If he can post it.
I have given up trying to post pics.
I think its too wide to put into an ek.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to do a fifties race car replica of a maserati 450s.
I'm going to use a corvette chassis a build the alloy body on to of it.
I could repo the maserati chassis but then I wouldn't be able to register it.

Very cool Dave, but if you break that engine, I reckon it'll cost you...

I broke my merlin a while ago. Surprisingly the parts weren't that bad.

Hopefully the maserati engine will last a while. Its only going to be a road car. I'm not planning on racing it.
