Radiator fan.....
Hi all, just put in the new radiator (HT,HG) and now am having clearance issuses. The one in it previously was HT HG, so theres a size or mounting issue somewhere. The fan I have looks like a boat prop, which gives me about 10mm clearence from the fan to the radiator, but when revvs go up, the blades are just striking the lip of the tank at the bottom.
Not knowing what models have different fans, what fan would suit this one best? I need something quite flat, or offset toward the engine so I get the clearence I need.
Any help would be apreciated.
Cheers, Dave.

Re: Radiator fan.....
Try flattening out the blades yourself, I have just done this with the fan on the red motor that has gone in the wagon.
In my EK I had a fan that I cut the ends off because it was hitting the bottom of the radiator.

Re: Radiator fan.....
Thanks guys. Was thinking of flattening the blade but was worried that I might disturb air flow, but I might do it if you havent had any troubles with yours Trev. At least it will get me from A to B without worrying about putting it through the radiator.
I will go and have a look Tim, theres bound to be a flat atermarket fan that fits.
Thanks guys,
Dave.
How is the wagon coming along Trev ???????

Re: Radiator fan.....
Just bent it all up, got a good clerance now. Thanks guys.
Will still go and look for a flatter job, my flattening skills arent the best.
Thought I would just chuck it in the vice and wind away. Start winding and snap, vice shits itself !!!
Lump of wood and a mallet finally did the trick.
I assume it was worth the change over Trev ????

Re: Radiator fan.....
One thing I am surprised about is the lack of difference in power between the 138 and the 161
, it is a bit more smooth to drive.

Re: Radiator fan.....
Dont worry DR, it was more the ends of the blades that needed flattening. It still has an angle on it.

It's a second hand Hight comp 161 from a HKTG, stockie. It's a great running motor, it just surprised me that it didn't have a major increase in power!harry186 wrote:what are the specs of the 161 though is it new/recoed, stock/modifiedTrev wrote:One thing I am surprised about is the lack of difference in power between the 138 and the 161, it is a bit more smooth to drive.
The only reference I had to go by was driving the mildly worked reco'd 138 and the second hand 186 in my EK, the 186 is a big jump in performance over the 138, sadly not the 161 (still like it thou)

What are you talking about? I've been driving my red powered EK for more than 7 years! Bit late for welcomesharry186 wrote:Ohh welcome to the dark sideTrev wrote: (still like it though.

I have only driven 1 EK with a Hydra (fairly fresh motor) and compared to mine (with trimatic) it was a slug.
Maybe you've only driven sluggish greys?
Other things different between the 186 and 161 is the 161 has 3.36 diff with 215/75 tyres, the 186 has a 3.08 diff with 195/75 tyres.
Both are second hand motor that blow no smoke.
Had to give the grey a go, probably would have kept it but it was (is) my daly driver. Once a week or month would have been not a problem

And for the record, I've never been Kool (as hard as I try)

What are you doing posting at 3:30 am has red tube crashed
Dakam sounds like you are running a flex fan (any pics) a standard fan would give you more clearance
I know plenty of people bend or flatten fans with no dramas but you can throw it out of balance or weaken it with disasterous results (think of having your head under the bonnet when a blade lets go)
