&*#@ cars You owned & admit to!
Re: &*#@ cars You owned & admit to!
Im a bit boring, ive always owned ek's, i bought my first ek in 1985 for $350, i was 17 years old, the car had no rego, i had no licence and hooned around in it for 3 months, then sold it to my next door neighbour who was the drummer for dave and the tall boys ,(rockabilly band of the time).
My second ek was a kathay grey sedan,i bought that car for $500 and i hooned around in that for several years and dropped a couple rods and blew a big hole in the side of the engine block while doing an oil aided burnout in lygon st carlton, i fitted an ej motor into it and within 12 months the car got written off at the front of my parents place by a drink driver.
In 1990 i bought another ek, beige in colour for $600 drove it around as a week-end car for 12 months, then pulled it of the round for a restoration/modification, painted it mazda classic red, fitted worked 192, hr disc front and 3.08 lsd diff, kept that car for 15 years, sold it to a guy who lives in st clair nsw.
2 years later i had to have another ek, now i have the green ek ive just restored, have had this one for 3 1/2 years.
Spose a new commodore every 3 years (company cars) since 1990.I did have a &*#@ bf wagon on straight gas as company
car for 3 years, went well, lots of grunt and 700 klm on a tank!
will try to scan and post pix.
Cheers.

Don't take this the wrong way mate but isn't it funny how we all start becoming "restorers"when we realise that some old cars are worth more in stock form I've done the same thing with my 1936 &*#@ that I brought as a restored car and was going to put a chev/auto etc. in the end I became a V8 Flathead fan and it now runs a rebuilt 39 Mercury flathead with Edelbrock heads etc.
What I really regret is selling the XT Fairmont I had on P plates, first of the 302 windsors I swapped the auto out after I killed it "learning"the fine art of burnouts and put a 4 speed manual in. It was in pretty good condition when I first got it,shame I couldn't say the same when I sold it to a wrecker in 1977.

I think it has a lot to do with changing tastes too. 20 years back I wouldn't have looked twice at a restored or original old Holden. As soon as i bought a stock car it was a case of ripping offthings mudflaps and weathershields and trying to stuff the fattest rims you could onto it.
Now I get (as Mick calls it) a special feeling when I see an original .
Not that I don't like a good modified car either.
It's got nothing to do with what they are worth, or whether they are too precious to cut up or whatever.

Cal,
You hit the nail on the head, its "changing tastes" Anyway back to the original thread, I had a V8 XT in the seventies when you could buy $5 worth of super and go cruising with mates,28 Hiboy,30 Roadster pickup and still own my 36.
My other cars are my FJ and HR

Thats not my point of veiw, but other members of my immediate family.
Yeh, if it was in the condition now as when I sold it, it would pull quite a few dollars.
And yes, VERY NICE
