this is a pic of my first little holden... my second project car ever. my first one was the enemy... rx3 coupe, it got stolen the day in got rego...
back to my ol girl , i purchased her in june 2006, i plan to make a bit of a rat stlye wagon out of her, sitting nice and low on some 14's whitewalls, falt paint finish, venetians, has a 186 which i 'm still tossing up wether to keep or chuck & go efi (rb30), also custom grill and chroming & inside try to keep it as original as possible, with a few surprises...

this how she looked when we meet...
Image
don't be fooled... like my girls she they fool us at first glimps... once we spent some time together & got to know each other alittle better, she started slowly opening up & showing her true self...
Image
the more she opened heself up to me the more i could see that she had been hurt buy previous relationsships...
Image
misstreated...

even abused

Hi Matty, welcome to the forum.
Looks like you've finished, I mean it's already got a great rat look with out touching it, just make the 186 run well and you'll be on the road before you know it :D , stuff around with the rb30 and it could be off the road for a while  . Totally up to you thou of coarse  .

By the way, was that car from Vic? Because I saw one the same (chrome strips on the tailgate) down here around early 06, rang about it but it was sold already  ,

Nice Matty!

as Trev said its already got that 'Rat' Look about it, you should sort out the body interior etc.... get her properly on the road and then start trickin out an RB30 for her so you can enjoy her first before giving her another break...then again best to put want you want in from day one otherwise you might not get round to it!

G'day Matty,

Looks like a diamond in the rough... 8) Glad to hear you're going to make an honest girl out of her.

I'm sorry, I just don't get this whole 'rat' craze.

Looking at the hubcap it would appear to have had it's way with an EH as well. (Maybe the EH had it's way with the wagon?)

the "rat" thing is about enjoying yor car without spending mega bucks and worrying wether someone is to close to yor car or if it's gunna get a stone chip and most of the time done correctly will get just as much attention as a big dollar car for less money and hassle 8)

It's like Ratbox said, for example our club president has an fb sedan, flat black with flames, something that he put together for a bit of fun and to last a year or so (four years later  ). Where ever we go as a club it's not the shinny car that catch the publics eye, they nearly always go and look at his car first :D ,

I'm sorry, it's not that I don't like them or like looking at them. Just like 'feral' utes, I can appreciate the effort put in but it's not really my cup of tea. OK, I will shut up now.

Arrrrggghh the rat debate...

I have retyped this a couple of times before hitting submit.

Suffice to say, build it how you want it.

Things can be made to look really good and enjoyed like a normal car at a very inexpensive price. It just takes hard work rather than $$$$$ and can be done. Deliberatly trying to make something look like crap, why bother......

Every old timer I ever talk too in the rodding scene struggles with this whole idea of a rat rod. Their comments are always" we never had much money but we always wanted our cars to look nice".....
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Perhaps the all red interior, chrome tailgate strips, blacked out front indicators and whited out rear indicators were an attempt to make it look more like a '57 Chev? Works for me.
Andrew.
Whingeing won't fix it.
