hey guys, thanks for the kind words...

ed, your interior is still the one setting the bar & its a bar not many will ever reach...
Matt, sck... loving the vans progress...

so lately I've been doing little bits & pieces, new exhaust & getting some chrome back on the car...
bumpers, bumpers, bumpers F@#K'N BUMPERS...

maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, WHY hasn't anyone ever post problems about putting bumpers back on, pleeeeeeease dont tell me that i'm the only one that this has happened to...
first of all lets talk about the front bumper... "IT'S F@#K'N CROOKED"... i would looooooooove to hear from others if the had this problem & how to fix it...
Image

now the back one, i cant get the other side... (the drivers side) holes to line up enough to get the bolts in... it also is hard up against the drivers side rear guard & the passenger side is about 20ml away from the guard...
Image

i would love some tips as i am soooo stumped because it looks so basic to do...

thanks again
matty martin

At a guess I'd say your brackets are bent! Pull 'em off and check to see if they line up side to side first then work on lining them up on the car.

Another helpful tip is get some good masking tape (the green stuff works best, scotch tape brand I think) and mask up any potential areas you may chip/scratch while fitting instead of the rags. Alot easier, I used this method fitting mine up on my own.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Hey Matty

Looking good mate - I'm betting one of the L shaped front mounting brackets is a casualty of war and needs either straightening or chucking!

When the Asian fella took on Jimmy's EK, with the result = one Jap car rooted and the EK fixed for nothing, lol, we found those brackets not only buckle but stretch through their profile and it took some oxy work and an anvil to get them back to the same profile as the new ones we have on hand. If you get stuck I can trace around them (the NOS ones) for you and send you templates, although there are also some bends you would have to get right .

Anyone got some good irons for Matt?

Cheers

Gday Matty
To try to correct the bumpers,
Remove bumper, then remove the brackets.
Check the brackets are evenly shaped, (They have offset) by holding them together where the bolt holes are, that bolt to the body.
They should apper as a mirror image of each other. they should start parallel, bent away from each other,
then straighten up, back to parallel with each other at the bumper end, not next to each other, but parallel.
If not one, or both are bent.
Correct that first.

Secondly, assemble the bumper itself on a flat surface,
they should sit flat on the bottom, and have an even curved shape.

Attach brackets so the are at an even height to the flat surface.

As DR said, Tape up the area's that may get scratched, get a mate to help you fit it.

Good luck

Cheers

heys guys,

thanks for the helpful hints, ill tackle these again next sunday & let you guy know how i go...

billy, mate, i been lucky not to have a hammer near me, otherwise im affraid of what i would of hit... :x
DR, ill check to see if hey line up & thats a great tip about the tape, but a bit late...
dave mac, thats interesting but i dont have the skill required to do this, but thanks for the offer
jeff, hey mate, i think i'll tick off all of the things you mentioned & see which point i get to before i get stuck
adam, yeah, our cars would look so awesome together hey...

basic green, aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh... reeeeeeeealy... i wondered what was going on there, it check the car after i take them off. but from memory i dont recall seeing any dents/grooves for the bumper brackets to sit in... this make perfect sense though, because when i was trying to get the hole to line up, the bumper just wont go any further in, it hits the car...

let you know on monday how i go...

thanks for everyone's help...

G'day Matty...I feel your pain with the bumpers not lining up.
I've 'been there & done that' myself.
Takes a few go's to get it right. If worse comes to worse I may be headed up to Sydney way next weekend so if you still need a hand let me know.

Scotty.
