Gday Chris
Welcome to the forum mate

Paul ( smooth customs ) has made a powerglide conversion in the past,
he would be a good start to contact,
try here  http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/memberl ... file&u=644
It would be very similiar to the trimatic conversion seen in the sticky at the top of this "Driveline" section.

BTW; we would love to see some pics of your "barn find" in the "My FB EK" section

Cheers
Jeff

Hi Jeff
Thanks for the reply, I am in 2 minds on what to do. If the car is 99% original do you think I should save my $$$$ up to get the original Hyrdamatic reconditioned. I have run out of $$$$ and this blue slip and redgo are the last things that need doing. I just want to drive it.
Thanks Chris

Probably better to fix the hydro first, if not
a trimatic would be the next best option.
I think a grey motor would really appreciate that 3rd gear.

Trimatic behind grey is the way to go (for performance not originality).
I would have thought a powerglide is more suited to the more powerful of the red 6's eg; 179, 186 and 202 because of it's longer 1st gear, Trev 8) .

i'm with trev i don't even like powerglides behind red 6's plus a trimatic would be a much easier find
question, wouldn't the hydra be an expensive rebuild if it could be completly rebuilt i'de assume alot of parts would be obsolete

X3 hydro or Tri is the best option
Better dead than red

Hi, thanks for the previous help. Now for more questions!
Above is a pic of the original Hydramatic that came out of my EK. It has been replaced with a Hydramatic out of a EJ " this is the trans I am having trouble with" Never done a trans swap before, if I unbolt the transmission in the car from the same bolts at the front, will this one bolt up straight to it? Thanks Chris

there will be a bell housing that i'm guessing should bolt straight up, but there must be a reason why they took that gearbox out and replaced it

I am not sure why he swaped it, I spoke to him today and he said the original one is good. Is there anything I have to watch when I doing the swap?
