Dan,
I can't tell you how "easy" it was like to grow up when I was a kid...... they greatest "fear" you had was your father - or the policeman..... if you didn't get into trouble with either of them - chances were that whatever you did was OK...... freedom....... and you soon learned to know what was acceptable..... or not!
We had the opportunity to "develop" our personal understanding of "respect" back then ..... we all knew where the "line" was and walked very close to it (if not with one toe over under extreme "risk")... but we "knew" when we were out of bounds......
Sadly, I believe today - such "knowledge" has to be "delivered"..... and even more sadly - those who should be delivering it - either don't.... or Can't.......
Freedom - yes, it was a great time to grow up..... we "made" our own games - asked for precious little - lived on a very bare existence - but above all - learned that any freedom was always at risk if we strayed beyond our limits.....
Tell me where kids can grow up in a similar manner today - and I'll move there.....
frats,
Rosco

I wish i'd grown up then. No deads%*t gangs and minorities (no they're not all bad people), everyone played outside without computer games...and the best part- i would have been in time for some fantastic cars still in decent condition
'The best engine in the world is a vagina. It can be started with only one finger. It is self-lubricating. It takes any size piston. And it changes it's own oil every four weeks. It is a pity that the management system is so f*$king temperamental.'

I had a good look through PF's book the other day and it looks like a good read. Didn't know he started life up at Peats Ridge ?
Growing up in the 60's sure was good and the 70's even better except for disco music that got wiped out by the Aussie pub bands anyway. come to think of it the eighties were good too. 1990 was the best though - a little ratbag called Jimmy came into our house, followed in 1991 by his lovely sister, lol!!! Actually made me grow up (well sort of).
I reckon the times are what you want to make of them - if you want simple - it's still there, but now there are so many options we never had. Apart from certain two legged crap our politicians (a r s e h o l e s nearly every one of them) love importing into this country life in Australia is still bloody good !!!
