Malcom please excuse my ignorance if this has already been discussed in your thread ,But those wheels in the first few pics look like Halibrands ,specifically you will see them on Shelby cobras and they are reproduced possibly by Spot on wheel repairs of Unanderra ...

But they may be off something factory that I didnt read

Good to see you have another project but I wish you would use your creative skills on something Kustom american

Hey guys,

Still no progress in the shed but the garden is looking shit hot. Just down to the last of the gardening now and hopefully will soon be back in the shed with grinder and welder in hand.

Harko those wheels had cast into them trailer use only, definately not halibrands.

cheers

New Toy - EK

Post by Malcolm »

Well finally the gardens are finished and its nearly time to get back into the shed.

Picked up a HR front crossmember yesterday from Dalby wreckers for what I thought was a reasonable price, $40.00. Have today trimmed it up to get rid of the engine mounts and outrigger ready to be sent away for the rack conversion.

Still a bit slow on the EK at the moment as I'm still playing with the FB ironing out the wrinkles. Had a shit load of problems with the wipers not wanting to park when turned off but thats all sorted now and the fuel gauge is sorted out now also.
The car itself is still up on stands with the gearbox missing, and hopefully next week will see it back and all fixed.

Anyway progress is slow on the EK but I now have a firm plan of whats to be done and I will be sticking to it.

Cheers

i'm sure you've probably checked it but could the gearbox issue be anything to do with the conversion wiring, didn't you have a problem with it not starting that was to do with the modified harness
just another sudjestion  :?

so the plan's set have you picked a colour

New Toy - EK

Post by Malcolm »

Hey RB,

I had it in the auto electirians twice before exploring the box its self. All the auto elect. side of things is spot on. When they put there computer on the engine when driving you could actually read what the box was doing. When driving you could watch the slip in the box slowly increasing until it got up to the stage when it went into safe mode (3rd gear).

The starting problem I had was the crank angle sensor and harmonic balancer were stuffed. When replaced that it was fine..

Thats why I'm going to an old chev (carby) for the EK. No more f*#.en around with wiring and electronic bullshit.

Just had a look on ebay and couldn't find it. Not sure if it ended or it was pulled for some reason? from memory the start bid was $800. It has been on there before for a grand? start bid, something like that.

I have been wanting to ask this for a long time, what happened with Malcom? he was on here all the time and we all watched in awe at the build on the yellow machine. He attended the nats, cleaned up, started this car then... Gone? havn't seen him post anything in what 12 months? just dropped of the face of the earth.

Did I miss something? :?

Hey guys,

Yes its been a while, but our lives have been turned upside down over the past 15 months.
In this time we've sold up in Kingaroy where we were living, I've transferred to another section of my job in another town. We've bought a new house & moved, the wife has transferred through her work and the kids are settled in new schools. Its been a bit busy.

As for the new toy, yes its for sale. I've only just got it out of storage where its been for the past 15 months.

In the mean time my wife has acquired a liking for the real 57 chev so we've bought a basket case to do up instead of the EK. And yes now its in storage also.

Never the less the FB won't be getting sold, and it gets driven nearly every time I have days off.
