Yep, I think you're all right: there's no way 'round it. I sent the MIG up to my brother's place a while back, sounds like I found a reason to pay him a visit!

Thanks brains trust

I’ve just done mine. Covered the glass and tint with a sheet of steel and added a couple of tacks with the mig. Keep a wet rag handy to cool. Mine only had two small spot welds from factory. It will never come off again.

Thought I'd revive this old build thread to bring attention to Leroy, my EK Ute... that I will be putting up for sale soon.

Tough decision to be sure, I had lunch with Jodie (widow of Bill, Leroy's owner from 1982 - 2017) and she has given me her blessing.

Now, I've seen the prices folks are asking for EK Utes out there and to be sure, this car could never command those prices given the fibreglass and filler and the less-than-factory looking rust repairs I have done on the undercarriage.

Have a browse through this thread and you'll see what I mean, though I'll say it's all intact and sails through pink slip inspections each year at my mechanic. Mechanically, I left no stone unturned and as far as driving goes, it has proven to be a very very reliable and capable machine. A visually rough but dependable workhorse.

I hate selling cars, so I'm posting here first in the hope that I might avoid the pure hell of speculators on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree etc... We all know how that goes.

Happy to answer questions.

Hello again

The good news on this thread is that Leroy the Ute is still in my ownership and he's still hard at work. Thankfully I avoided having to sell up.

Speaking of hard work, the sun on my neck today reminded me that I am chasing a veneitan blind for Leroy. I see that new ones are available for north of $500, so I thought I'd ask if anyone on the forum might have a used one they might wish to part with for less?

Cheers, Joe

ps: how do folks post images on the forum nowadays? Is the Tapatalk App still a thing? TIA

I use Tapatalk to post all my photos - it works great and is simple to use. I have never been able to figure out the post photos from your computer thing , even with instructions because if for example you need to "parse an URL" you might as well be speaking in Urdu .............
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Good to hear from you Joe and glad Leroy is still in your possession.

I bought one for Frank and don't think I paid that as Clay said, I got mine from the company if SA also.

Gday Clay, good to see you're still bearing the torch on here.

Thanks for the contact, I'll give them a shout also.

Profitable trip to SIMS early this morning, which paid for the ‘new’ Venetian blind that’s on its way thanks to the EK-mart (cheers Blacky)

Cleaning out and lining up help at the moment, ahead of some heavy duty demolition of the old fortress-shed behind my place. Expanding the workshop!

Lots more work for the Ute in the coming months… tip runs… Bunnings trips… can’t wait Image

That all looks too good to ditch in my book. Which is why I’m drowning in my own crap.
