Drew called by my place on the way home from the cruise. We set the carbs up a bit better with some bits from my stash, and synched the idle.ImageImage

Hey guys. Shock horror! Yes I’m actually doing a post lol

In regards to the mustang tank, or any tank which is not an early golden 0-30ohm gauge you can buy what’s called a ‘fuel guage calibration box.

I bought one from Gauge works here in Adelaide.

In theory it was meant to be simple to calibrate but it wasn’t…

They say to remove the sender and hold it in full and press F
Hold on 1/2 and press H
Hold on empty and hold E

But reality seen me do that 4 times and it was not accurate at all.
Ends up the mustang tank holds about 15l in reserve so the only way to get accurate sweeting’s was to physically fill the tank and press F, drain 22 litres and press H, drain another 22l and press E.

Doing this it still was way out so I had to fill and drain the tank 15 times to adjust and manipulate settings to get it close.

It’s still not perfect but it’s very close.

F to H moves drops the gauge quickly and H to E takes ages to empty.

However I haven’t ran out of fuel yet and I’ve have the gauge near the empty mark.

Below is my mud map of how I set the box up to get the near accurate guage readings

I can’t see another way of getting it more accurate other than doing the full and drain technique over and over and noting what you set the box at vs what the gauge reads in the end.

Also turn the ignition of and then on between settings as it also seems to change what the real life readings are.

To check if you have calibrated it to an ok standard, you guessed it… fill the tank and drain it in 1/2s to see what the gauge is doing

So anyways I feel I owe you all an explanation on why I haven't posted in 12 months.

I just looked and my last post was 02/02/23 near exact 12 months ago, directly at that time I was wrapped up in a toxic relationship with a really unstable woman who I gave way to much energy to and she drained me. I had nothing else to give and posting about the car was not even on my radar.
At the time I was finding it easier to do you tube videos and even they have stopped, the last one being of me seeing it off to the auto electrician I think.
Since then my life pretty much fell apart, my mind was all over the shop and emotionally I was really unstable and I was literally keeping my head above water and staying alive.

In June 23 I had a major incident at work driving trains, I ran a red signal with 500 souls on board into an oncoming train.
Luckily I had the presence to stop, all was ok but it proved that I was totally $*#@ in the head.
Worked pushed my back to drive again within a week, and 3 weeks later I did the same thing but with and empty train and no train oncoming.
Red signals are the base line safety feature in railways and I have been driving successfully for 20 years, to have this twice in 3 weeks set me to rock bottom.
I walked out of work that night and have not driven a train or work a legitimate day of employment since.

A huge process followed to eliminate any physical reasons for this sharp change in my behaviours and level of attention that I could hold.
Months of testing followed and many medical issues were identified from faulty heart valves to growths on my brain.
In the end after seeing the top specialists we have to offer it was all of that was deemed normal and I was physically fine.

All roads pointed to a severe mental health issue.

Months went by and bouncing from counsellors, the psychologists and then to top level psychiatrists I was diagnosed with 'Long term undiagnosed ADHD, inattentive and hyperactive'
I always though ADHD was cop out for people behaving badly and here I am now having to suck eggs.
But what has been proven is that I need to be truly interested in what is in front of me, otherwise I can't do it or concentrate on it... hence why I was messing up at work.
I was driving trains but my head was in my shed thinking of the next part of the Fb to build, and between what ever woman's boobs that I could think of.
with distractions like that how could I possibly concentrate to drive a train?

Essentially I have spent my life chasing cheap thrills and toxic women and the drama from all of that stimulated that part of my brain that needed feeding, but using my logical brain to do so means I had no capacity to use my logical brain for cool calm and collected things.

Anyways I'm on the meds (amphetamines) to stimulate that part of the brain so I don't have to stimulate it manually any more and its nice to have a somewhat logical part of my brain I can use now for the good things in life, like caring for myself and not chasing the drama that always seemed to surround me.

So now its been about 6 months since diagnosis and I feel I'm slowly digging my way out of the hole and life is really looking good.
However I have no idea what ill do for work in the future, but I have time to work that out.
Who knows what will happen in another 6 months but the future is looking good.

In a nut shell posting about a car hasn't been on a priority, not saying im back and lets go again but hey there is one thing that rings true out of this...

This car has made me many good friends like Clay and others locally, and to be chatting with Brendon and Blacky on the phone the other day gave me a bit of a reset and im looking forward to the simple things like car cruises and shed time with the boys.

Thanks for hearing me out

It’s been great chatting and talking shit with you again of late Drew.

It takes a big person to openly admit when things are not good and seek help to get themselves sorted so good to hear you are making progress.

You have done a kick arse job of the wagon and I’m looking forward to checking it out in the flesh one of these days.

Wow mate, I know we touched briefly on this the other day - it takes a brave man to lay it all out like this where almost a dozen people will see it

My phone is always on if you want to chat  wagon looks great , I have seen those conversion boxes advertised and thought they would be a good way to get an accurate fuel gauge but after reading through your post it seems like nothing is as easy as it sounds

Drew,

I admire your courage in opening up, on a forum no less.

Umm, who did your seats? The colour and texture of the vinyl is an exact match for my FCs' (note plural possessive) interiors.
(I'd buy the wagon tomorrow if it came up for sale. Just f.y.i.)

Yeah but when you did cajole me you went for the heart😀

‘Get back on the forum Drew, everyone loves you and they miss you and want to know what’s going on’

FFS Clay pulling out the low blows😆

Anyways it worked, and I’ll try to be more attentive.

I guess you are referring to the FB part😎

Funny thing is about the plates is that I searched SFB219 many years ago when I first got the wagon and I didn’t secure them.
Searched again the other week and they were still available…

Seems no one wanted those plates, the universe had them on hold for me.

Cheers Brendon, I’m really thankful for the chats, has been a grounding back to reality for me.

And I’m grateful for the wagon too, it’s been the thing that I’ve been able to hyperfocus on and it’s been the perfect way to get myself back in order. Very therapeutic.

However there isn’t much I want to do know other than be in my shed so I’m thinking I have to monetise it somehow.

Make parts, build engines, but there isn’t a huge demand for the old greys anymore!

Blacky I reckon my gauge is dicky and not accurate for the get go, therefore being a pain the caliburate.

Ensure you have a a good gage first I reckon.

And yeah I will give ya call some time for sure, your a good bloke , easy to talk to and it’s always about Holden’s so Im definitely interested 😀

Hi Rob, I need to make you one of those RMS tools mate.

The front seat is the only thing retrimmed, I met a local retired trimmer who has all the sewing machines in his shed so he do the front seat for me.
Unsure if the colour code but it’s very red haha
