Bob Hamilton is over on the FX/FJ forum if you need a contact. Imagine he would be tickled pink to know where those wheels went.

Between the other wagon, work, family etc I’ve still been managing to have a a bit of a play with Eddie.

Last time I was home I got to the point of firing it up and running off its own fuel system but a major fuel leak out the front carb main jet plug meant the glory was short lived. Managed to dig out a few spares so will have a play with it over the weekend and hopefully it will be a runner again.

Mucked around with throttle linkages getting everything to clear and get full throttle. The extractors caused me some headaches but they were the cheapest set I could find on eBay and they hit everything, intake, standard linkage setup etc… Made a false floor, chucked a moon tank, rollover valve, new PTFE lines suitable for future upgrades and got the tank in and breathing external. I’ll enclose it down the track with my long term plans but for now what I’m planning to do with it it’s compliant and safe enough.

Filled the cooling system, wire wheeled and painted the boot (polishing a turd here)and a few other bits and pieces to get it ready for Pete’s moonshine run in Feb all going well.

Unlike the other car where the level of finish has been quite high this on the other hand has been a refreshing change giving things a quick tidy up and just slowly bringing it back to life without being too concerned about it. Don’t get me wrong it’s safe enough and what I’m doing is getting done properly it’s just not pretty. Everything is starting to work as it should but it’s just been fun tinkering and getting it running again. Very much of Freiburgers mantra of “don’t get it right just get it running”.

I’ve funded most of this with unused bits off the other wagon or trading bits and pieces that came with it given the other one being the money pit it has turned into which has also been fun.

Speaking of such things, Captain Bob wanted the hinchcliffes back for MR Terrifc so I did a bit of a deal between him and Lindsay and ended up with a really cool set of wheels which I’ll talk about later but for now it’s back to steeelies.

More to follow..

Some of the best fun is where you can work on them without worrying that a dropped spanner will destroy show quality paint.
