I knew you would nut it out Harv. These things are made to very good tolerances, so it's all good now.

Re: EK Fuel Gauge pegs to the right on ignition.
Harv & Blacky are both correct.
The wire to the fuel tank sender or the sender itself is open circuit.
A short circuit will hold the gauge to the empty position, but an open circuit will send it to full.

Re: Making your own braided hoses
I'm a Raceworks distributor & based at Auburn, I make these all the time.
One thing to keep in mind is that brake hoses for street registered road cars, regardless of whether they are factory-style rubber or braided must have crimped ends. The ones which are made using removable AN fittings are not ...

Re: 253 info
In a country where petrol is close to A$4.00/L I think strokers or 1,500 hp motors are furthest from their thoughts.

253 main bearing sets are easliy available in sizes ranging from STD to 40 thou under. The most common 'reco' grind seems to be 30 thou from what I have seen.
We sell them for $A75 + gst a set. 40 thou (if needed) are the same price but a bit more difficult to procure.

Re: Buckskin FB panel van
333 was a regular option in FE/FC, because they came standard with an all-metal upper tailgate as standard, with the glass as an option.
In my experience there were more vans with the glass option than without, but maybe it was different back in the day.
I don't believe this was the case in FB/EK ...

Re: EK front parking lights bolts
You, and every farmer in the country as well.
10-24 UNC (aka 3/16" UNC). 3/16" Whitworth has the same pitch . . . mumble mumble . . . thread angle five degrees different . . .
Rob
That 5 degrees can sometimes be a real pain. The Whitworth bolt is 5 degrees "fatter" in the teeth which makes it ...

BSW threads weren't used on Holden's. It is more likely 3/16" UNC.

What ignition leads are you running ? If they are wire leads, that could be the issue.
The main reason modern suppression leads were introduced was to reduce RFI (radio frequency interference) which appears to be what your problem might be.

Re: Master cylinder thread.
Sorry I don't know the thread pitch, but I can confirm that there are 2 different threads for both types of master cylinders (factory, PBR & other aftermarket types).
The early tin type (FE to early HD) had a rounded thread form which was smaller in diameter to the later cylinders. ABS & other ...

I've had many HRs in with Lucas distributors, probably more than any other Red motor models series.ardiesse wrote: Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:36 pm Another exception: the family HR, which had Lucas electricals and AC instruments, and is so far the only one I know like that. Every other HR I've seen was Bosch/VDO.

Re: Harv's FED thread
When discussing rear end ratios with they guys who have been doing it for years their advice to me was to work back from the finish line.
Exactly right. We drag raced at Castlereagh in the early 80s & we used to calculate the rear end ratio & tyre size by aiming to go over the finish line at 1 ...
