Hi Ben from what I can see I think it is an HR front end fitted with HQ style brakes and HG steering arms, the rack at a guess would be Austin 1800. The whole set up looks a bit dodgy to me, the brake hose rubbing on the tire, the routing of the brake hose and what looks like a commodore rim fitted ...

Another thing to check is the fuel hose from the line to the pump,these can play up and give an intermittent problem. Cheers Rex

Utes and vans are a little different at the top corners, the vans have a cut out to suit the rubber seal.

Hi Billy Blackarrow your problem could be from the master cylinder being for a car with four wheel drum brakes.Also the proportioning valve should be before the power booster as you have boosted pressure going into the front half and not boosted in the back half,if that makes sense. Just looking through the Nats history and noticed a mistake ,the Vic Club hosted the first nats and the N.S.W. club the second . Tocomal was the forth Nats, followed by Dubbo.

It looks like I'm to late as you have got your wheels already but you can get blank HQ disc brakes and redrill them to early holden pattern,you might even be able to get P76 discs and redrill them, they move the wheel in an inch I think. The repair work looks to be going well. Keep up the good work.

I don"t know if I've seen this done or just dreamed it up myself but what about using a small esky type box painted to suit the style of car, maybe a tool box could work as well.

The way to do this conversion is to use HQ backing plate with HG drums. The HQ backing plates need to have the center hole enlarged to suit the early model wheel bearing. This Job should be with on a lathe rather than an oxy.
