Re: Andrew's EK ute- V6, chassis kit etc- Canberra
Rust and ding pics, as per the post above. The ding in the top of the tray actually isnt as deep as i thought- maybe half an inch at most. Its just that its put that nasty wrinkle in the top of it as well. Hopefully we can heat and pull it out a bit, or maybe it's best addressed by a professional ...

Re: Andrew's EK ute- V6, chassis kit etc- Canberra
Okay, so I finally got her home and cleaned out, her time in ‘open air storage’ hasn’t really done much to her, although I'm finding that some of the repairs done prior to her 'temporary' blue paintjob were quick and bodge- majority by the previous owner... At one point in time the top lip of the ...

Re: Collaspable steering column conversion
Yep, point taken , the reason I cut and shut an EK column was - probably the same reason lots of other people do the same thing - to keep the original wheel. The VN column will bolt up as you say but you cant get what i would consider a period correct wheel to fit the later model spline.
I ...

Re: Collaspable steering column conversion
I know this thread is way old but just had to add my 2c... A VN column basically just bolts in like its meant to be there. Only downside being that it has the ugly plastic surround but I'm sure the more industrious types could easily knock up a much nicer shroud to make it look all pretty. And being ...

Re: HR front end, VN discs- track too narrow now?
Thanks for the info Harv, very informative!
I'm running a HR front end, but dont have the CRS stubs- mine are Torana of some sort (gotta check with the old man) with mix and match bearings to suit fitment of the VN discs. Whilst close, the tierods don't touch the rims or tyres- could be a slightly ...

HR front end, VN discs- track too narrow now?
Hey guys,
My ute has a HR front end, torana stub axles and VN discs/calipers, i was wondering if anyone else is running the same thing (ie, rodshop front end with commodore brakes) and if so do you have standard commodore offset wheels on them? I have 15x7" steel chaser rims on the ute, the rear ...

Re: Andrew's EK ute- V6, chassis kit etc- Canberra
Safety reason- yep thats what i heard as well Mick, but we'll see what the engineer says I suppose. CRS did say (i called them today) that when they cut the notch out of the crossmember they actually install large gussets and stuff internally while its all open, to beef up the internal strength ...

Re: engine mounts and sump to EK...
Mick- yeah I reckon most of the FE-HR's here in Canberra with V8s in them would be running standard HR crossmembers with no other mods other than engine mounts... maybe i'll have a chat with an engineer firstly.

Re: engine mounts and sump- SBC into EK...
Thanks for the replies guys! The HR front end was all built by Dad (mechanic with over 35 years experience), however there was (as far as I can tell) no strengthening modifications done to it, as it was only going to be a V6 or straight six. I will liaise with an engineer as to what is needed, but ...

engine mounts and sump- SBC into EK...
Hey guys, im taking delivery of a 307 soon for my ute, and i'm wondering where people have located the engine mounts/pedestals on their HR crossmembers. Im going to be using CRS headers with the cutouts through the inner guards, and was seeking some measurements/ ideas. Also, do I need to cut and ...

Re: Andrew's EK ute- V6, chassis kit etc- Canberra
And now for something different altogether... I've found a smallblock chev, so thats going in instead! :vecctor:
I was going to have to move the engine mounts anyways so this is no big deal, from what I believe I'll need HK/T/G mounts and have to fab up some pedestals from box steel or similar ...

Re: Andrew's EK ute- V6, chassis kit etc- Canberra
Yeah in bog standard form they aren't the greatest, but I'm mainly doing it so I have a good basis for a turbo setup later- the EFI manifold, 12 port head, crank and rods are what im after for the rebuild, I'll also convert to a MAP setup with an aftermarket ecu.
Should go okay with my built T700 ...
