Re: Timing Light ! Finding the White Mark !
Timing is likely way out. If it's idling fine, then simply undo the distributor locking plate bolt (I think its 1/2 or 9/16" AF) and turn the distributor body until you see the dot appear in the window. Turning anticlockwise is advance, clockwise is retarding. If this doesn't work, you might be in ...

Suspect that the carb has an internal air leak...They are notorious for being of poor casting quality (porous), as Holley had offshored their manufacturing. Apparently the internal leaks show up the way mine has. Carb cannot be rebuilt-to-rectify due to the porosity...

Re: Linwood House at Guildford
Yep, it was the NSW Club's annual Judging Day, which was tied in with Linnwood House's Open Day. Some great cars and Ducati bikes were there. It got a bit warm but wasn't too hot.

Re: Diff Ratio
Hi Stephen,
My two cents based on my personal experience over the years:
For a stock grey grey motor, the 3.55 ratio is probably the limit. I ran a 3.36 with a stock grey years ago and, whilst great on the highway (except hills), it was not that crash hot around town.

Measured up my rocker cover on the flattest surface in the shed , appeared the ends had about 20 thou or so clearance according to the feelergaugeometer so I took them to my mates machine shop and had them surface ground - he told me they were miles out , here’s hoping that was the problem. I ...

Re: Engine oil grade(s)
Hi Andrew,
Many that have grey motors use the Penrite HPR-30 20W - 60 mineral oil. It is a high zinc oil, which ensures the cam followers are well lubricated.
When my EK was my daily, I used cheap 20W - 50 oil without the zinc. Guess what? When the engine was pulled down, most of the lifters were ...

Re: Radiator shop recommendations: Sydney?
Ring Arthur at North Shore Radiators . He's done a great job on both radiators I've had him do, one of which required an intricate, non-pressurised overflow system to be rebuilt. On my EK, he used the old tanks but put in a triple row CT core to keep it cooler. Arthur's not cheap but neither is his ...

Hi Harv,
If that's a new Smith's mech temp gauge, be aware that the soldering on the sender of these new gauges can be of a very poor quality and are prone to fail. After mine died, I took it to a mech gauge guru, an ex-QANTAS instruments engineer I've known for years, who re-machined and soldered ...

Re: Harv's FED thread
Correction: you'd increase the motor's weight by finding a bigger planet. Its mass would remain unchanged.
I might be wrong, but what I was pondering was gravity being proportional to the two masses. You can increase either mass... either take the grey motor to a bigger planet, or increase ...

Re: Coarse spline 3.36 banjo diff centre wanted
Good one, prices can be all over the place for them these days , going rate in WA is $50-$100 for an unknown unit but you need to be quick.
They sure can. People were asking $400 - $500 in unknown condition, which is too much. The one I found was out of a HZ wagon apparently and I paid $195 ...

Coarse spline 3.36 banjo diff centre wanted
Hi All,
With a view to the long trip to the Nationals this year, I'm looking for a good, non-whining 3.36 coarse spline banjo diff centre. Anyone got one spare that they know is a good unit?
I'm located Northern Sydney area.
Cheers
