FB ute Tailgate

Post by Robo »

Hi all
Would I be correct in thinking that the tailgate on a FB UTE has a slight curve both up and down as well as left and right ?

Hi Rob hard to find a good tailgate now days you can buy skins but unless you have a frame, or bones I call it, then it does become very hard, I had ended up with 3 before I was lucky enough to grad a good one on ebay cost me $500 and still needed work.
Good luck

G’day Robo,
I was just talking to new mate Mark from Hoppers Crossing who is doing an EK Van. He made a new skin from sheet. Only curved it top to bottom he said.

Not obvious in the first photo, but he has welded a length of 30mm angle to the top hat section brace, corner out. Welded sheet at the top, then bent over the angle, and fixed the bottom. The sides apparently sat perfectly on the frame.
Cheers
Clay
