Tony's FB Ute

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd share my ute with you lot, i recently acquired it from my mum, it was restored by my dad and has been on the road since 2003, but it hasn't been out of the shed for some time. She was a paddock find, had been left under a tree with chooks roosting and doing their business over her. I will dig up some 'before' and 'during' photos when i can find them, but for now here's some recent pics as i rolled her back into the shed after a much needed cruise to blow out the cobwebs a couple of weeks ago. Some of the West Aussies on here may recognize the ute.

Nice 'hottie' ute, Tony.
I like the engine bay with the twin carbs and matching yellow in-fill on the finned alloy rockercover.
You'll have more of a chance getting that center cap than I would for a Mk 1 Tasman!!

Thanks for the comments fellas, there's a couple of little fix ups I'd like to do but she's good to go driving, that's what i plan to do, get out there and enjoy it.

Took the ute out for a spin over the weekend, through Nannup to Busselton and home through Capel, Donnybrook, about a 250km round trip.


the spare wheel looks to be a tasman, correct??


One of the minor issues was not quite returning to idle after accelerating - i had to lift the pedal to drop the revs at traffic lights etc.

I fixed this by cutting a few coils off the spring shown above, worked a treat

Any ideas on the golden browny stuff coming out the sides of my carbs? Should i be looking into a overhaul kit for them? I guess I'll give them a good clean and see what happens.

I've also ordered a Pertronix Ignitor kit off eBay, i had one on my nissan patrol and it definitely made a huge difference to power and economy. Hopefully will be here to install next break. I managed to keep the pertronix flamethrower coil from the nissan, so that might get a splash of yellow paint before getting installed

I was reading the RYCO filter book in the auto shop the other day cursing it for being stupid and only going back as far as red motors, after doing some research i now realise i may have been the stupid one, hmm no oil filter on a grey motor hey, hahaha

I used to work for Western Power as an asset inspector - driving around checking the poles to make sure they weren't going to fall over. In my travels i passed through many farms throughout the wheatbelt and goldfields and found many treasures, if only i had a GPS back then I would know where they all were... some beauties amongst them.

Hey Tony, no, that's a "Rocket" mag wheel (the scallops on the spokes give it away), quite often mistaken for the Tasman wheel.
